St. John's Church
Apple River, Illinois

In 1868 German immigrants began construction on a church in Guilford Township, on Elizabeth-Scales Mound Road, on land purchased for $10.00. The church's beautiful wooden altar was handcrafted in Germany, shipped by boat to Milwaukee, then by rail to Apple River, where two local church members hauled it by wagon team to the construction site.

St. John's Church was dedicated September 18, 1870 and the first wedding was held June 2, 1874. Regular services, delivered in German until 1928, were held until 1969, where after the church was rarely used.

St. John's was relocated to Oak Hill September 18, 1996 and completely restored in time for the first wedding on June 27, 1998.

Music played during the prelude is by Jim Brickman.
