Winter Duck Sale

This year we will be having a Duck Sale for our annual fundraiser. Whole ducks and duck halves have been provided by Maple Leaf Farms. The sale takes place in November and will last until December 2, 2011, providing Purdue and the surrounding communities with ducks for the holidays!

International Poultry Exposition

The International Poultry Exposition takes place in January at the Georgia World Conference Center in Atlanta, GA. The College Student Career Program gives students from all over the country the opportunity to interview with companies in the poultry industry as well as explore the hundreds of booths from all aspects of the industry.

Indiana State Poultry Association

Every year the Avian Sciences Club volunteers to help and attend the ISPA's Annual Banquet. Club members get the wonderful opportunity to mingle and dine with poultry industry representatives as well as faculty from Purdue.

Ag Days at Delphi & Kokomo

Club members travel to Delphi and Kokomo and spend the day leaching elementary students about poultry. The kids get the chance to hold chicks and ask questions.

BoilerBlast

During the spring, club members volunteer to go out into the community to perform tasks be it painting, cleaning, or racking leaves.

Tot's Day

Students are brought to Purdue's Animal Science Research and Education Center (ASREC) to learn about various different farm animals. The students are taught the differences between roosters and hens and get to hold chicks.

Springfest

Every year, the Avian Sciences Club is the biggest hit at Springfest's Boiler Barnyard. Children and adults alike can look and even hold ducklings, chicks, and poults (or baby turkeys).

Midwest Poultry Consortium

The Center of Excellence is a summer scholarship program offering 18 poultry science credit hours taught by outstanding faculty from 14 different states as well as experienced industry leaders. The scholarship is open to all levels of undergraduates from 14 different schools in the Midwest as well as Florida. The 18 credit hours are spread out over two six-week summer sessions. The first summer consists of Avian Physiology, Breeder Flock and Hatchery Management, and Poultry Products Technology. The second summer session includes Avian Health, Poultry Nutrition, and Poultry Enterprise Management. The classes are taught at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in beautiful Madison, WI. Internships with participating companies in the poultry industry are obtainable before and/or after the six-week program. Internships are formed to fit the students’ wants and needs in a company. Over the past few years, Purdue has been proud to send the most students from one single university
