Graduate Student Excellence Award

The Graduate Student Excellence Award recognizes outstanding scholarship and professionalism by Graduate and Professional Students at Purdue University. The award will be given to one Masters student, to one Ph.D. student and one Professional student who exemplify excellence in the three missions of Purdue University: Discovery, Engagement, and Learning. This award is sponsored by the Purdue Graduate Student Government (PGSG) and is awarded by the Academic and Professional Development Committee. A cash prize of $500 will be awarded to each winner. Applications will be accepted from March 1, 2013 to March 25, 2013. The winners will be notifi ed and prizes will be awarded during the Graduate Student Appreciation Week.

Selection Criteria

  •  Discovery Achievements – Applicant must demonstrate excellence in research, technical awards, patents, publications, co-ops/internships, etc.
  •  Learning Achievements – Applicant must demonstrate how they participate in the Learning mission of Purdue. Teaching assistantships, awards, honors, etc. may be used as evidence
  •  Engagement at Purdue and the community – Applicant must demonstrate a high level of engagement in their department, Purdue University and the community. Activities that lead to economic development, P-12 education, lifelong learning, community involvement, volunteer work and projects that benefi t the community, etc contribute as engagement.
  • Organizational Involvement – Student organizations and clubs, honor societies and organizations, departmental organizations, professional organizations, etc. all contribute to professional excellence.

Submission Materials

  •  Completed application form
  •  One letter of recommendation from the major professor. Letters of recommendation should address one or more of the selection criteria listed above. You may submit an additional letter of recommendation, but it is not required.
  •  Application essay

Submission Deadline Date: March 25, 2013 by 4:00 pm

Method of Submission:

The application form and letters of recommendation should be submitted via campus mail, U.S. mail, or hand delivered to the address listed below. If materials are submitted separately, please be sure that everything is clearly labeled in order to avoid confusion.

Notification of the GSE Award

Winners of both the Master’s level and Ph.D. level awards will be notified by April 18, 2012.
