Winner

You are a winner just by being in the Special Olympics,

Because it does not matter if you are black or white

Green or yellow or how you act or whether you have a disability or not.

You are a winner because of who you are,

Not what you are.

Don’t let others tell you any different.

You are a winner

No matter if you win or loose.

If you win that’s great;

If you lose, you just have to work harder to win.

For me winning means getting my Swimming times down.

Some Athletes just care if they get first, 2nd, or third places.

They don’t pay attention about their strokes.

They just like winning,

But not me.

You can be more than just a winner.

There’s ALPs which gives me a sense of accomplishments.

I am more then a winner in ALPs ,

Because I help make Special Olympics better in my County

And, I like helping others.

I Want the World to Know

I want the world to see me as a person

Not as someone who has a disability.

I want the world to know me as a person

Who can do anything they can.

I want the world to know

Those who are Mentally Challenged

Are just like you and me.

I want the world to know

Mentally Challenged folks can do the same as anybody else

They’re just a little slower then you might be

And in different ways they may be better then you.

I want the world to know that

Every day after school I ask my mom “Why did God make me this way”.

I want the world to know that

God made each and every one of us who we are for a reason

And that reason might take you a lifetime to find out.

But you will find your reason why God made you who you are

And who you are to become

For He has a plan for everyone.

I want the world to know

I may not always understand why I write the things I write

But does God write through me

Or do I just think up this stuff out of the blue on my own?

Only time will tell

When I learn the truth.

Give Us a Chance

You need to give Mentally Challenged folks a chance.

If you don’t they won’t learn to dance.

If you pass us on the street

Say hi.

We will say hi back to you.

Some of us are shy to strangers.

But if you start the conversation

We just might say something back to you.

For, if you don’t give us a chance.

We won’t feel good about ourselves inside.

And not do the things we were met to do in life.

If no one encourages us to be the best we can be.

Or go beyond our boundaries of what we can do.

We won’t do anything to improve our lives.

Or won’t do things that keep us fit and active for our lives.

Be the Best You Can Be

Be the best you can be and even more.

You never know what tomorrow will bring.

You might just change the world.

For, if you don’t help out in this world

You will not know what you are missing.

Be the best you can be.

Showing others that Mentally Challenged people can do the same things as you

And maybe even more.

Because you are who God made you to be.

And no one else.

Little Girl

A little girl is setting by herself

Because she thinks no one will play with her.

She asked someone to play with her

But another little girl came up and said

“No you can’t play with her”.

The little girl went inside

And cried for the rest of the time.

She wondered what was wrong with her.

I am someone

I am someone who has a disability.

I can do most things you can do.

I am just Mentally Challenged.

Having a disability does not stop me

From doing things I was meant to do.

I am someone who likes to swim

For the fitness it brings.

But needs help with my strokes.

You Can Be Someone like Me

I am someone who’s special.

Not because I have a handicap.

Not because I’m in the Special Olympics.

But because I try my hardest

To accomplish things in life.

By trying to help others the best way I can.

By helping the Special Olympics become better

For the athletes.

By helping my friends.

By being the best that I can be in life.

And more.

You can be someone like me

By trying to do the best you can be every day.

By helping others every day.

It does not matter what you do.

As long as you try and make this world a better place.

LIFE

Why does life seem to be unfair?

Why does life seem to be so hard?

Why can’t I do anything right sometimes?

Why can’t life be on the easy track?

Why did God make me the way I am?

God made life so hard

So we would learn from our mistakes.

He wants us to find our own way in the world.

Even if it takes us a lifetime to find our own way

In this world.

If you’re still searching for answers.

Whether it’s looking for a job you enjoy

And, or being happy at that job.

Finding that one true place

Where you belong in life.

Or, finding and sharing for that one person

That’s like you and or for you.

Whatever it is in life you’re searching for.

Let God know.

He will answer you when you’re ready to hear Him.

Even if that may take what seems like a lifetime.

Give Him a chance and He will hear you.

So when you are at your worse.

Talk to God.

You may never know what might happen next.

I might have a hard time believing that.

But I will learn someday.

And you will too.

Friendship

Friendship is

Being there for them

When they need you the most.

Friendship is

Hanging out with that person

Just for fun.

Friendship is

Knowing when to care

About that person

At the right time.

Friendship is

Knowing when to share

Your stuff with that person

Friendship is

Knowing that you’ll be there for them

At the right moment.

Friendship is

Knowing when to share your feelings.

Friendship is

Knowing when to give that person

The right advice to give

Love Is to Me

First, let me tell you I don’t know what love really is.

Because I never really experienced it myself.

But I will tell you what I think it means.

Love is

Love is to me trying to find the true meaning of love.

Today

Everyone should hear Kenny Chaney’s “Today”.

You’ll cry because if you have ever lost someone you loved in your family.

You know what I mean.

Today I am looking at someone I lost

And I can’t get over the fact that he/she gone

I would be forever grateful

If God could just let me talk to Him/her

One more time

I think to myself and say

“Why can’t I be with him/her
In that wonderful place”?

I ask God why I was left

On this earth to defend myself

And I don’t know what to do now

I don’t know how to go on living

I just want to be where he/she is

But I know God has a plan for me

Whatever it is

I will take it step by step,

Little by little

I will wait until He shows me the way

And leads me down the right path

I don’t know what will come of me

But I’m willing to find out

Is There a Life Out There

If you have ever heard the song “Is There Life Out There” by Reba McEntire.  It is a song about a young woman who marries at twenty.  And, she wonders if there’s life beyond her family and home. She wants something more in life besides her family.  She search’s for a life she can be proud of, goes to college and graduates.

Do you ever feel lost?

That the world is going on without you?

That you are going on with your life.

But, you are not all there?

Are you searching for something?

But, don’t know what it is?

And you don’t know who to turn to.

Are you trying to find someone

That you can easily talk to?

Like me, I just can’t tell someone my problems.

It’s got to come out when I’m not thinking about it.

Sometime I feel lost in this world

And I don’t know what to do

I know God will help me

Find my way back

To where I belong

It just might take a lifetime

I don’t like waiting

But, what can I do

Just wait and find out

Because who knows what will happen

A few years down the road

Guardian Angels

I ask the question

Do we have Guardian Angels?

They are the ones that listen to us

When we need someone the most

And tell us “You’ll be all right”

Guardian Angels are there

When we need them the most

Your faith will lead love where it has to go. --

Love will be the gift you give yourself. –

“Tell him” by Barbra Streisand (Duet with Celine Dion)

Going Places

As I am walking home

I look at the world with anew

It is field with wonderful colors

The weather changing,

Fall always makes a pretty picture

Leaves are changing

This also lets you see new things

That you have never seen before

Our lives get so busy

We don’t have the time

To just look at the stuff that we missed

We don’t take the time

To enjoy the things around us anymore

So, the next time your town

Has a Gallery Walk

Take the chance,

Enjoy the beauty

What Life Wants

God wants me to be similar to everyone else

When I was a girl I didn’t understand

Why God made me with a disability

I just wanted to be like everyone else

I would come home from School,

Tell my mom

“Why did God make me this way”?

I understand now

That God wants me to teach

Others about Mentally Handicapped people

Like me, because they can’t

Yes, it takes me longer to learn

But I can learn

We all can learn

Some of us are just much slower than others

I would like people

To not judge others

Just because some are very different

I just needed some extra help starting out in life

I still do, just not as much

But others will need help

With simple everyday things for life

I long for a relationship

That I can share my feeling with him
Which is hard for me to do

Because I lock my feeling up inside

When I was little,

I needed help to get them out

Writing is the only thing I can think of

And I’m a romantic at heart

Time

Where does the time go?

I remember having the best time when I was little

After school some of the neighbor kids

Would play around the block

Those were the good times

But where does all that time go

I really never wanted it to end

But we all grow up

Get jobs, start to have our own lives

Away from our parents

Others can’t leave

Because something is keeping them

From doing what they should do

They just need time and help

To find out what that is

Brothers and Sisters

DADS

“The Greatest Man I Never Know” by Reba McEntire is about her dad who she sees every day.  Say’s hi but does not talk to him.  He’s biasness keeps him away most of the time.  Because she never talks to him, she does not really know him.  He is not the kind of man to say “I love you”.  He though she new.  The days turn into years.  When he passed away she will never here the words he was meant to say.  Because of the way he grow up.  He did not know what to do about her.

Faults

Others tell me what I am doing wrong

But never tell me how I can improve on my faults

Don’t get down on yourself

Because others tell you

What you’re doing wrong

Don’t beat yourself up

Because others told you

You did this or that wrong

Instead of doing something back

Ask “How can I improve myself”
