“You are the stars and the world is watching you. By your presence you send a message to every
village, every city, every nation. A message of hope. A message of
victory. The right to play on any playing field? You have earned it. The right
to study in every school? You have earned it. The right to hold a job? You have
earned it. The right to be anyone’s neighbor? You have earned it.”

Special Olympics ~
"Who We Are"
The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training
and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and
adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to
develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in
a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special
Olympics athletes and the community.
Special Olympics IN Tippecanoe County
A nonprofit organization, Special Olympics provides year-round
sports training and athletic competition in several Olympic-type sports for children and adults
intellectually challenged. SOIN Tippe reaches nearly 200 athletes
throughout Tippecanoe County. The activities even go beyond sports! The organization receives no federal or
state funds, relying entirely on corporate, civic and individual donations
~ operated totally by dedicated volunteers.
Come on ~ ALL are welcome to come, "BE A FAN..." (join the fun) ..."get involved with someone
special!"

ALPs ~ Athlete Leadership Programs
Special Olympics Athlete Leadership Programs (ALPs)
allow athletes to explore opportunities to participate in Special Olympics
outside of sports in leadership-type positions. Such participation might come in the form of an athlete
serving on the Board of Directors or local organizing committee; or it might
find an athlete as a spokesperson, coach or official. ALPs University offers
athletes a chance to take courses designed to train them in the skills that will
take them towards such goals of leadership. These classes are available through
the year. ALPs meetings have moved to the
2nd Thursday of each month, 6 pm -- subject to change!!
These will be switching to the 3rd Thursday in 2010!
