Welcome to the Purdue
Intercollegiate Horsemanship Club!
The main purpose of this club is
to expose interested Purdue students to horses and to the sport
of riding, regardless of experience. Students are able to
take riding lessons - both western and hunt seat - through the
University, take lessons to learn to ride, or take lessons in
preparation for intercollegiate horse shows. Although showing is
a large part of this club, it is not required to be a part of
the club. Many students ride for fun and to interact with
horses, which, in itself, is the best part of the sport!
Members of the club are highly
involved, whether it be through lessoning, showing, attending
social events, or attending meetings. Monthly meetings are held
on the first Thursday of every month. Meetings include club
updates as well as fun activities and guest speakers.
The only set requirements of a
club participant include paying club fees (see below) as well as
helping out during home shows. In the week prior to a show,
every member must work a one hour shift at the barn (cleaning
the barn, cleaning tack, preparing the horses, etc). Also, on
the day of the show, each member must work a half day helping
out at the show. The alternative to not working a work session
or not working the day of the show is a 25$ fee. The team needs
all the manpower it can get because without our members, Purdue
would not be able to host such wonderful shows!
The following are costs involved
with the club (non-riding members need only pay the club fee):
-
Club dues: $20
per year
-
Rider's fee:
$20 per semester
-
IHSA
membership: $30 for one discipline, $40 for both hunt seat
and western
-
Riding
