Here is what was discussed at the past meetings:
January 24, 2007:
- Welcome and pizza

- Meetings: will most likely be on Wednesday
evening around 7 or 8. There will be at least a weeks notice
before every meeting. Meetings will not be held every week,
but probably once or twice a month.
- Activities: We are going to try to get guest
speakers from St. Francis College and possibly some practicing PA
from around the area.
- What can you as a Pre-PA student be doing now?
Get experience with patient care by volunteering or working as an
EMT or CNA
- Elections: Will be held in the middle of the
semester
- Questions/Comments: Please try to think of a
volunteering activity to do as a club.
February 28, 2007:

Foundation. Timmy Foundation is a free clinic for children up
to 18 years old and volunteers are in high demand! For more
information go to
www.purdue.edu/timmy
- We also had a PA, Sara Dininger and the doctor
she works with, Dr. Granger, come talk to us about the kind of work
they do. If anyone has any questions you can email Sara at
sdininger@hotmail.com
March 28, 2007:
- James Cashdollar from St. Francis came to talk to
us about their PA program and the application process.
Applications are accepted from Jun1 through December 1 for classes
beginning the following May. Applications should be done
through CASPA (www.caspaonline.org).
You should start working on the CASPA application in May before the
year that you are wanting acceptance. You do not have to have
all of your requirements completed at the time of application
submission, but provide proof that you are taking the required
classes and will have them completed before your admission date.
Qualified applicants are given an interview on the campus which
includes an orientation of the campus and an interview with the
admissions committee members.
- Some general requirements include:
- Bachelors Degree (3.33 average GPA)
- Scores from the GRE
- 15 semester hours of Biology including
anatomy/physiology and microbiology
- 12 semester hours of Chemistry including
organic and biochemistry
- 6 semester hours of psychology
- Have direct patient care experience (300-500
hours)
- On the CASPA website, you will need to have all
classes and grades, an essay, references (supervisors and a shadowed
PA are a great start), and patient care hours.
- The program is 27 months with the first 15 being
classroom and problem based learning and the last 12 of clinical
rotations. The program only accepts 25 students each year, so
getting your application in and getting one of the first interviews
is key!
- If you have any further questions, you may
contact James at
jcashdollar@sf.edu or visit the St. Francis website,
www.sf.edu
- At our next meeting, we will be electing officers
for next semester.

August 22, 2007

and to get the Advisor from St. Francis to come back again. We
will also try to become involved in community service through a
local center.

that can be found on it.
- Talked about gaining patient care experience and volunteering
hours. A great way to gain patient care experience is to
become a CNA or an EMT. Amanda will put up contact information
about both of those programs shortly.
- Meetings for the semester will probably be held on Wednesdays at
7 PM and probably once a month.
- Election of officers for next school year will be held at the
end of the Spring semester.
- If you have any questions, please feel free to contact one of

If you have any suggestions about volunteer opportunities, please
