COM DAY WANTS YOU!

At the meeting this Wednesday, November 18, we will be selecting co-chairs and committee members. This means, anyone who is interested in being involved should be at the general meeting and put their name on the list. Com Day is a great way to get involved and offers a great deal of networking opportunities. We will be looking for the following positions:

Advertising - This committee will be responsible for securing sponsorship from local businesses in West Lafayette and Lafayette to help ease our budget for the event! They will be able practice their interpersonal skills and "salesmanship" as they seek funding or discounts from local merchants. They will also be working with the Exponent to advertise the event as it approaches next semester.

Public Relations - This committee will be responsible for getting the word out about Com Day all over campus. As Com Day will take place mid-February, this committee will need to be able to commit to spending promoting the event early next semester. They will create and post fliers on campus, create materials for Com Day, and basically promote the event creatively in any way they see fit!

Event Planning - This committee will be responsible for planning and organizing the details for the event from now until Com Day. Like the PR committee, members will need to be able to commit to planning the event all the way up until the big day! This committee will work closely with one another to make sure Com Day will be a memorable event for both speakers and attendees alike!

If you are interested an making your spring semester one to remember, be sure to sign up for one of these committees as either a co-chair or a committee member. We need your help to make this event happen, so get involved! If you have any more questions regarding Com Day or these positions, please feel free to contact Natalie Palmer at ncfox@purdue.edu.

PULL IT. TWIST IT. POP IT.

It's time to start saving your pop tabs. Tell your friends and family to do so too. Boiler Communication will have a "pop tab drop" on campus during Grand Prix week, 2010. This charity is to benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Indiana. If you have any more questions you can contact Natalie Baye at nbaye@purdue.edu.

WELCOME TO THE NEW SITE

Recently I have updated the website. I decided I wanted a more functional and simple looking site. As the semester progresses I will be updated more and more content to make it a more useful resource for all PRSSA members. Here's what's new:

  • The dates, times and locations of the meetings can now be found on the right side of this page. It is a google calendar and the dates can be added to your personal calendar. It will also be updated with any other events that come up useful for PRSSA members.
  • Under the about section, you can find information about PRSSA along with information about your executive officers.
  • Under the resources tab, you will find anything and everything you need to know about the club. It is broken down into information about committees, the newsletter (which will now be electronically issued), media (which contains all PRSSA related photos, videos and links to other social media sites that will be coming soon), the blog (which we hope to have as a tool for all members to contribute to), and finally a section of useful links.
  • Lastly, under the contact section, you can find contact information for emailing all of the executive officers, our advisor, as well as a mailing address.

I hope the website can be a more useful for the members of PRSSA. If you have any ideas, comments or concerns please email me at bcwahl@purdue.edu. I look forward to any feedback. After all the website is your resource.

HALF DAY WITH A PRO

Registration for the Hoosier PRSA Chapter's Half Day with
a Pro is now open! This year's program will take place on Wednesday, November
11, 2009.

More than 100 students from universities across the state come to Central
Indiana once a year to learn first-hand what PR pros do on a daily basis. It
gives students the opportunity to see "cube land," observe team meetings,
participate in brainstorm sessions and ask questions about our industry and
environment to better determine which direction you may want to go after
graduation.

What happens on Half Day with a Pro?

  • 8:30-9 a.m. Students typically report to the sponsor's place of business
  • 9-11 a.m. Sponsors generally describe key job responsibilities, special
projects, review resumes and offer advice about career paths, trends in the
    field, etc.
  • 11:30 a.m.- Students are invited to the Hoosier PRSA luncheon
  • 1:30 p.m. to meet other students and professionals participating in the
    program.
  • (student luncheon fee = $18)

Please RSVP for the luncheon by Friday, Oct. 30th at www.hoosierprsa.org

MEMBER REGISTRATION FORM

First off, I want to thank everyone who attended the callout tonight. Also, thanks for putting up with the room situation. Things happen and you have to adapt so your flexibility and cooperation is much appreciated.

For those of you who didn't get a registration form, please click on the icon to the right and download the PDF file. You can print it out and return it to Jamie Howell [jlhowell@purdue.edu] or bring it to the next meeting, along with your member dues. The $70 fee is a little high, however $50 of it actually goes to the National PRSSA to register you as an official member. The other $20 is used by Purdue PRSSA to put on events throughout the semester. We hope you decide to become a part of PRSSA here at Purdue and get involved. Thanks again.

The registration form can be found here.
