The Purdue Sailing Club is currently bigger than it has ever been, with twenty members on our racing team and another twenty recreational sailors. With all of our new members, we hope to improve the club in several important ways. First, we are improving our facilities by purchasing new storage for our equipment on our Lake Shafer property. Second, we hope to gain experience by attending a variety of regattas and clinics in the coming year. Third, we are holding more fundraisers so that we can make money to buy new boats and equipment. Fourth, we hope to grow as a club by attracting new members and hosting socials to foster a sense of community among members. Finally, we will give back to the community by participating in several community service events throughout the year.
As a result of our growing membership, we were able to send members of our racing team to several notable regattas last year. The team was able to place first at Boiler Cup, the Emma Biagoni Memorial Regatta, and Match Race Clinic East. The team was also able to place fourth at the Bouderman Cup Regatta with two new skippers. In addition, racers were sent to many other regattas across the country including the Match Race Qualifiers at the Chicago Match Race Center and the Mardi Gras regatta in New Orleans.
The team is currently looking for sponsors and donations so that we can pursue better storage options at both of our facilities. We are also in need of new boats, dollies, a trailer and a new dock. Please check the “Sponsors” tab above or the “Donations” link on our home page if you would like to offer your support.

I am from Southern California and have been around the water and sailboats since I was born, but I did not begin racing until I joined the Purdue Sailing Team when I was a freshman. I have attended many regattas in the past two years and am excited to race in more this year. I love everything about sailing and the team but if I had to pick the one thing that I love the most, it would definitely be the amazing people that make up the club! Everyone has so much fun together, and because of my involvement in this club I have come to meet some of my best friends.

Christine, a new member of our team, is a freshman in the School of Engineering. For the past few years, she has taught sailing to both children and adults near her hometown outside of Chicago. She has been sailing for several years and has experience with boats big and small.
Christine has been chosen as Sailor of the Month because of her enthusiasm and willingness to learn. She stepped up as a skipper during Boiler Cup at the beginning of the month. Last weekend, Christine crewed in our B fleet at Acton Up and won second place, helping the team win third overall. Congratulations Christine and keep up the good work!
