The Purdue University Bass Fishing Club has over 35 members strong. We participate in three fall tournaments where students get to be a part of a real bass fishing tournament atmosphere. In 1996, we started the first ever BIG 10 BASS FISHING CLASSIC. Michigan State, Minnesota, Indiana, and Purdue took their top 10 members to compete against each other. In its first year the Boilers took first place. In the second tournament on Lake Minnetonka, MN Purdue Team Member Steve Doll took first place, but the Boilers fell short of a repeat by a few ounces. In 2000, the Boilers again took the title in Wisconsin. The tournament now has 9 of the 11 Big Ten schools competing. Our largest spring tournament is the "Old Minnow Bucket" Tournament. This is where our top 20 members fish against our arch rivals, Indiana University. Following the footsteps of our great basketball team, the bass club has won the majority of the "Old Minnow Bucket" tournaments in the past eight years.
So why is our bass club so successful? Through our hard work and dedication, as well as support from our sponsors and the Indiana Bass Federation (IBF). Without the help of outside sources, this club would not be possible.
