Purdue Crew Homecoming
Purdue Crew rowers, alumni, and parents had a fun weekend during Purdue's homecoming weekend. The festivities were kicked off on Friday Oct. 14th with the homecoming parade featuring Purdue's numerous clubs including Purdue Crew. Rowers dressed as superheros and carried an Resolute 8 through campus with Batman perched on its bow.
Saturday olympic champion and Purdue Crew alumni Amanda Elmore spoke along with current rowers David Anderle and Abigail Belbin about the greatness of Purdue Crew and the sport of rowing at the homecoming stage.
The festivities ended with the Annual Dash on the Bash Sunday morning. Rowers dressed in a costume that fit the theme of their boat and then battled down the Wabash through a 1000 meter course. Though rain hindered some racing we still got to have fun during this inter-squad regatta. The Bash ended with an Alumni and Coxwain race and the announcement of best costume winners.
Thank you to all alumni and parents for joining us this past weekend to continue on Purdue Crew tradition!
Harrison - Purdue Crew First Olympic Champion
Congratulations to Amanda Elmore and the rest of the Women's eight for winning the gold at the Rio Olympics! Amanda Elmore has just become Harrison High School's (of Lafayette, IN) and Purdue Crew's first Olympic Champion as the women's eight won their third straight Olympic gold. Amanda Elmore has exemplified the success that athletes may find through rowing clubs such as Purdue's. Purdue and the Purdue Crew community stands proud for what Elmore has accomplished and wishes her and the rest of the women's eight success in the future.
Purdue Crew athletes and alumni should all stand taller with Purdue Pride as you all set and sustained Purdue Crew since inception so this and other opportunities were available to those who could stand to its rigors.
