It's time to starting thinking about one of our biggest events of the year: the annual Mid-autumn Festival Karaoke Contest!

Every year, PUCSSA puts on this contest and show for the community to celebrate the Mid-autumn festival and enjoy a good time! In previous years, we have packed Fowler hall with hundreds of guests! Do you want a chance to outshine everyone else in our cornfield? Would you like to display your talents?? Here is YOUR chance to be famous and be known! We are looking for talented singers for the competition, MC's, and performers for the big date!
If you are interested in any of the 3 above, please sent an email to pucssavolunteer@gmail.com with the following info before (DEADLINE!!!!) 9/17/09 11:59PM EST:
1. If you want to compete and sing: name, gender, cell phone #, email, are you a solo or band group, your choice of 3 songs, major, interests/hobbies, and other comments
2. If you want to be an MC: same as #1 except you don't need any songs.
3. If you want to perform (MUST BE SOMETHING ELSE OTHER THAN SINGING, such as skits, dancing, xiaopin, etc): same as #1, and what kind of show you will be performing.
A preliminary round of competition may or may not take place depending on the number of applicants. If a prelim is necessary, the date/time/place will be announced by 6pm 9/18/09. If necessary, ALL singers, MCs, and performance groups will perform on the prelim date first before the real contest/show. There will be the final winners (a singing king, and a singing queen) selected by vote on 10/4. There will also a “most popular singer” prize, determined by votes on the forum (http://forum.purdueren.org) once the contestants are determined. Fabulous prizes will be waiting for our fabulous winners!

The "Sing For China Tour", featuring three of the best in indie-rock music bandsfrom China's emerging independent art scene, is coming to Purdue!!
Date: THIS saturday! September 19, 2009 Time: 1-3PM Place: FOWLER HALL (Stewart center)
The show is produced by Modern Sky Records of Beijing, China's largestindependent record label. They have asked PUCSSA to help give the Purduecommunity a taste of genuine Chinese youth culture/art!

欢迎大家来到普渡,融入普渡华人温暖的大家庭!
根据我们前期的统计和反馈,到芝加哥的人8月15日最多,目前为止有56人。到indianapolis的人8月14日最多,目前为止有14人。因此,我们将会在8月15日到Chicago O’Hare机场去接机。8月14日到indianapolis的人不多,我们不一定能来接,要看我们最终掌握的情况,如果超过了20人,我们就会来indianapolis接机。所以请组团过来的同学及时与PUCSSA联系。
今年我们接机的情况有三种: 1. 正如前面所说,我们会在同学们集中到达的日子里到chicago和indianapolis机场,把大家一起接到学校里。我们会在大家的必经之路上举红旗迎接大家,应该不会错过。由于租大巴和请司机花费不菲,学生会作为非盈利组织,无法独自承担这些费用,所以我们会向同学们收取一定费用。收费多少根据人数来定,越多的人来分担租车等费用,那么价格就会越便宜。Chicago接机的收费大概35-45刀,indianapolis接机费用我们仍然在与租车公司谈,我们相信不会超过30刀。(大家知道,坐Express Aircoach到purdue车费是$65,坐limo到purdue是$27。) 2. 如果同学们能自己坐车到达West Lafayette(其实不管是坐Express Aircoach还是Limo都是很方便的,到达机场后很容易找到,我们强烈推荐这种方式),那么我们的志愿者会免费来接大家。从Chicago坐Express Aircoach建议大家在Purdue Airport下,从Indianapolis坐limo建议大家在Purdue Memorial Union或者Follett's Purdue West下。以这种方式到达Purdue的同学,请在新生登记表上,写清楚自己坐的巴士到达学校的时间。 (http://www.diaochapai.com/9f63da24-4b3c-459d-8fc5-3b5ce5345172) 3. 有些同学因为到机场的时间很晚,赶不上回Purdue的车,但第二天可能因为要参加Orientation等原因需要到校。对于这种特殊情况,PUCSSA也会尽力帮忙。但是由于人不多,油费,租车(由于各种原因,志愿者们不一定能开自己的车)费用等加起来不少,不可能由志愿者来负担,需要同学们自己承担。具体价格会随着到达人数,租车费用变化,不好一概而论。这种方式又贵又麻烦又辛苦,如果不是特别需要,大家还是选择第1或第2种方式来到Purdue。真正有需要的同学,请与邓宇川(dychtommy@gmail.com)联系,请在邮件中说明到达机场,日期时间,人数,行李数目等信息。
迎接新生是PUCSSA的重要工作,我们希望新来的同学们能感受到来自同胞的温暖,能够迅速融入普渡的生活和学习环境。同时也希望同学们能体谅我们的难处,老生们都是从繁忙的学习和研究中挤出时间,放下他们的课余生活,毫无利益完全自愿地迎接新生。希望大家都有一颗感恩的心,一句由衷的“谢谢”必定能温暖一个心房。

Dept. of General Service (VP Hengzhou Ding | ding6@purdue.edu ) General Description: The duty of the General Service department is to plan, organize, and execute various PUCSSA events as well as take care of everyday routines such as paperwork and volunteering tasks. Examples of duties include but are not limited to: organizing a barbeque, working behind the scenes at KTV contest and Chinese New Year Gala, organizing new student pick up activities, etc.
New officer requirements: 1. Must be responsible, punctual, detail oriented, and most importantly, willing to devote your time to PUCSSA. 2. This team requires enthusiasm and organization.
Dept. of Public Relations (VP Haoshu ‘Hali’ Yang | yang27@purdue.ed ) General Description: The role of public relations is to serve as PUCSSA’s voice and image. The public relations team will handle all events advertising functions and promotional issues. Examples of duties include communication with various local/Chinese media and newspaper groups, working with other organizations to advertise PUCSSA events, updating PUCSSA events information to community calendars, and posting fliers, etc. The team also collects and maintains records of past events and activities.
New officer requirements: 1. Must like to talk/communicate with others and meet new people. 2. As representatives of PUCSSA, professionalism and personal conduct is of utmost importance. 3. Must work well in a team and have sufficient time allotted to PUCSSA.
Dept. of Public Relations – Media Team (VP Sibo Yang | yang125@purdue.edu) General Description: The team’s tasks include promoting and broadcasting PUCSSA in the Purdue community, as well as building Purdue’s popularity in China with the help of Chinese media. The team is in charge of filming footage for the organization’s many events, and photography and video production for PUCSSA. Examples of major past events documented includes but not limited to: Mid-Autumn Karaoke Contest, Halloween Party, and the 2009 Chinese New Year Gala.
New officer requirements: People needed: 3 Photographers, 2 Video processors, and 1 Editor/Art designer: 1 1. Proficient in operate digital camera (both easy-shoot and SLR) and HD video camera. 2. Proficient in video processing, can manipulate at least one video processing software (moviemaker, Ulead, Adobe Premiere, Adobe Bridge, Pro Coder, Sony Vegas Pro, etc). 3. Specialty in computer graphic design. 4. Sufficient knowledge to manage your computer. 5. Have appropriate equipment to conduct works.
Dept. of Business (VP Chen ‘Zara’ Zhao | zhao70@purdue.edu ) General Description: The business department takes part in planning and organizing major PUCSSA events every year. The team will also be responsible for maintaining old sponsorships and obtaining new ones for the organization as well as organize various fund raising events for the organization.
New officer requirements: 1. Must be enthusiastic and like to talk with other people. 2. Must be stubborn and determined when companies refused sponsorships. 3. Must be organized and detail oriented.
Dept. of Information Technology (VP Jia Jiang | jiangj@purdue.edu ) General Description: The IT department is responsible for maintaining and continuing to update and improve the PUCSSA website and its forum, available at http://web.ics.purdue.edu/~pucssa/. The IT team will update news about events and happenings.
New officer requirements: 1. Must be familiar with php, mysql, and CSS code 2. Must be able to work in a team environment 3. Computer and related majors preferred 4. Proficient in Adobe Photoshop, Firework, or Illustrator (not required)
Treasury (VP Huanhuan Wang | wang291@purdue.edu ) General Descriptions: The treasury is responsible for maintaining all records of monetary flow of the organization, organizing budget reports periodically and taking care of reimbursements.
New officer requirements: Needs 2 officers 1. Must be responsible and detail oriented 2. Accounting major preferred. |

  We would like to thank you for supporting our work in the past year. Please take this opportunity to vote for your favorite officers for next year!

PUCSSA has served the Purdue Chinese community for almost 20 years, and we have witnessed our organization grow with the community. To continue to serve you, we need volunteers, generous donations and now, the next class of leaders! We need leaders like you to join our 2009-2010 executive committee and play a leadership role in proposing and organizing various events throughout the year. Bring your passion, your creativity and your vision to our organization. We will reward your service with great leadership experience!

--> VP of public relations (2): One is responsible of promoting PUCSSA including but not limited to its programs and events. Major responsibilities include but not limited to: a. Contacting with local media to promote our programs. b. Advertisement of PUCSSA events. c. Collecting and archive news coverage about PUCSSA. The other leads the media team which takes photos and videos of major programs organized by PUCSSA. The event photos and videos will be posted in various media (such as on website, youtube and in DVD forms) to promote the programs of PUCSSA.
--> VP of Department of General Service a. Recruit and lead volunteer teams to provide various services to major programs, such as new student welcoming, cultural exhibitions, Karaoke contest and the Chinese New Year show.
--> VP of Department of Information Technology Service a. Recruit and lead an IT team that not only maintains but also improves the PUCSSA website and manages the mailing list.
--> VP of Department of Business a. Leading fund raising projects throughout the year. (ex. recruiting sponsorship, ticket sales, etc.)

Great news from PUCSSA! We are hosting our last annual event—PUCSSA Logo Design Contest. As the largest student organization at Purdue, we are looking for talented people around the world to help us design the logo for our organization. Your design will be used on all PUCSSA collateral on shirts, websites, etc, and will be showcased at the PUCSSA Awards. The winner of the contest will be awarded $100, and each participant will get a free shirt by the end of April!!
Key Requirements: • Our name “PUCSSA” must be present in your design • The logo should feature Purdue University as well as Chinese traditions • You can choose your own color & size. Electronic documents are preferable, but it can also be hand-painted. To submit your design electronically, we need both the PSD and jpg files. The resolution should be above 200dpi and the printing size should be no larger than 11*17inch • Please attach an explanation to your design as well as a brief introduction about yourself. • The design should be your own work. Plagiarism is forbidden by all means • PUCSSA reserves the right to revise and use your design. Participating in the contest indicates that you have read and accepted these terms
