The 1998 Midwest Regional was hosted by Indiana University and was shot at the Indiana Gun Club in Fortville, IN. Approximately 40 shooters participated in the shoot and represented five different schools: Purdue, Indiana, Kentucky, Iowa State, and Illinois Universities. Purdue dominated, winnning 3 of the 4 team trophies, and 4 of the seven individual trophies. The Regionals provided a good warm-up for the ACU-I Collegiate Shotgun Nationals in April.
Big 10 Clay Target Championships have been held annually since 1980 in connection with the Midwest Regional Clay Target Championships. The Big 10 team with the highest HOA score in the Midwest Regional wins the Big 10 traveling trophy to take home and display for the next year. Purdue was the 1998 Big 10 Champion beating Indiana University by 29 targets. The University of Illinois earned Third Place. This was Purdue's 14th consecutive Big 10 Championship and 15th championship of the 19 championships held since 1980.
