Turkish Research Application Form – DUE Monday, NOVEMBER 26, 2012.

--THE REVISED APPLICATION FORM IS NOW POSTED--

The necessary application form is now posted at this webpage. Contact the director at rauhn@purdue.edu with any further questions. The signed form and photos must be received by the director by Monday, Nov. 26.

Below is the downloadable Turkish research application form. It is in MS Word format in template form with data entry boxes. I also have linked a Webpage bearing instructions for completing the file. I have looked at the calendar and have decided that the effective dates (for purposes of the application) will be from July 22 to Aug. 20. We will attempt to depart on July 14, arriving in Istanbul Jul. 15. This summer the excavation did not open until July 20 (in 2013 the 22nd is a Monday). I anticipate 3 weeks of survey work, meaning we will be wrapping things up around August 12, assuming there are no delays. We must end the survey on Aug. 20, regardless of any delays in starting up. However, we are allowed a 10-day grace period to leave the country and we can use that time to travel to major sites if there is interest. Typically, I go to Ankara for a few days because I have paperwork to complete.

This form must be submitted as part of the survey project dossier to the Turkish government for processing by various ministries. It is essential that all those thinking seriously about attending the field school complete and sign a copy of this form and return it to Professor Rauh by Monday, Nov. 26. Completion of this form enables your name to be included in an official list of participants in the “Rough Cilicia Archaeological Survey” for Summer 2013. This is the ultimate field agenda of the field school. This list is circulated to the Turkish Embassy in Washington, and to the Ministry of Interior in Ankara and to the appropriate police authorities in the areas where we will be surveying. Local authorities are thus alerted to the fact that foreign researchers will be walking across property (private and public) in their region.

The application is cost free and obligates you to nothing. It simply creates the possibility of participating in the survey, in the event that you ultimately decide and are able to do so. Again, if your application is not included and your name is not on the final approved list, your participation is not possible.

One complication with the application is that it requires 6 passport photos. One solution is for everyone to let Prof. Rauh make a digital photograph of your head in his office when you turn in the application. If you are not a Purdue student you must either send Rauh a digital “passport photo” of yourself as an attached email file, or send Rauh 6 copies of your actual passport photo (in high resolution) along with your signed application.
