Purdue Intercollegiate Polo Club

*The Purdue Intercollegiate Polo Club is a student organization at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, and is recognized by the United States Polo Association. The club's purpose is to promote the sport of polo by teaching, practicing, and playing the game with an emphasis on proper horsemanship and good sportsmanship.

*Because polo is often new to people who have a solid horse background, the club is designed to welcome all enthusiasts, regardless of polo and horse experience (or lack of). If you are willing to have fun and learn a new equestrian sport, experience will take care of itself.

*The Purdue Polo Club also fields a Men's Varsity/JV team and a Women's Varsity/JV team which compete against other polo clubs around the country. In the spring, the varsity teams compete in the Eastern Regional, and competes against teams such as Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Louisville, Cornell, University Virginia, Yale, Georgetown, University Connecticut, University Massachusetts and Valley Forge Military Academy.

*The Purdue Polo Club is a self-supporting organization and is responsible for the care and maintenance of its facility, equipment, and most importantly, the ponies. All of ponies have been graciously donated to Purdue for our use.

*The requirements of club members are spelled out in the member contract received upon joining the club, but include the following:
-Dues: returning members, $225/semester
-Dues: New members, $200/first semester only
-Clean stalls once per week
-Participation in mandatory fundraising events
-Attending club meetings

*In return, members receive weekly lessons with instruction on hitting, strategy, and the rules of the game. Club Chukkers (i.e. games) are scheduled throughout the semester. Also, members gain invaluable horse management experience, and have the chance to meet other horse enthusiasts and make lasting friendships.
