    What is Salsa?

Salsa is the distillation of many Latin and Afro-Caribbean dances. As featured in the movies "Dirty Dancing 2: Havana Nights" and "Dance with Me," the subtle hip movements and intimate dance position make Salsa a very sexy dance.

I want the club to teach my team/group/party. Who do I contact?

Contact the President on the "Contact Us" page.

I have no dance experience. Can I still join?

Absolutely! We have lessons at all ability levels, from beginner to advanced. "If you can walk, you can Salsa dance."

Do I need to have a partner?

No! Our club focuses on social dancing--dancing with many different partners. Most members don't come with a partner, but invite your friends!

    How much are dues?

Dues are $35 per semester per person. If you pay for a full year, you save $10 ($60 per year). Make checks payable to "Purdue Salsa Club".

    What do you guys do?

The club has weekly lessons, weekly social dances, and several special events per semester. We also put on programs for other clubs, parties, and groups of all sorts. There is also an advanced performance team, "Salsa Infierno", that puts on choreographed performances.

    Who are you?

The club membership is mainly undergraduate and graduate students, although there are many faculty and staff members as well. All members of the Purdue community are welcome to join us!

    When and where are classes?

Please check our calendar for our most up-to-date class schedule.

Where is the Union South Tower?

Start at the 3D scale model campus map in the Purdue Memorial Union. Go up the stairs and to the right. At the top of the stairs, turn left. Immediately on your left will be a set of doors leading to a narrow stairway. The Union South Tower is located at the top of the stairs.

What if I already have Salsa dancing experience?

Consider joining our Intermediate-level class, or trying out for our Advanced class. Check our calendar for the audition schedule.

Does the club compete in Salsa?

No, the club does not compete in Salsa. Our advanced performance team is strictly for performing, not for competing.

It's the middle of the semester. Is it too late to join?

Of course not! It is never to late to join the club! Just come early to any lesson and speak to an instructor.

How do I join the advanced class or advanced performance team?

The club holds auditions at the beginning of each semester. Please check the calendar for the audition schedule.

Do I need any special shoes or clothes to dance Salsa?

We recommend you wear comfortable shoes and clothes, and we do NOT require special dancing shoes. Ladies may choose to practice in heels since they often dance in heels in a social setting. Some more advanced members do have special dancing shoes but they are generally not needed for beginner- and intermediate-level dancing.
