Personal

I hail from Mumbai, India. My parents settled in Mumbai thirty five years ago when they arrived from West Bengal, an eastern state of India. My husband, Bharath Chandrasekaran, and I met in Purdue, where he is also pursuing a PhD in neuroscience.

I speak three languages, English, Hindi and Bengali, fluently. I have served on several student bodies during my studies in Purdue: Chapter President, Asha for Education, Purdue Chapter (2005-06), Indian Classical Music Association at Purdue (2005-06), Krannert Doctoral Students Association (2006-07, 2007-08) among others.

Our team Smarta Inc. won the first prize at the Burton D Morgan Entrepreneurial Competition 2008.
