Welcome
The Challenge Karate Club at Purdue University is an organization
dedicated to the physical, emotional, and moral development of its
members through rigorous training in traditional Shotokan karate.
Shotokan karate is a Japanese "hard" style of martial art that
emphasizes very powerful motions and practical applications. You
do not need to be fit, limber, or an athletically-oriented person
to practice karate-do. People of all ages and backgrounds have
been successful in karate-do training (even so-called "couch
potatoes"!). No special coordination or natural physical ability
is needed for the practice of karate-do. The training is used for
the development of the habits of self-discipline, self-analysis,
and self-confidence. Practical self-defense is also studied.
