HISTORY OF CHI CHAPTER PURDUE UNIVERSITY

At the end of the fall semester of 1994, a group of twelve women gathered together to discuss the formation of a Hispanic based sorority at Purdue University, West Lafayette. It was these twelve women that looked into bringing Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority to the Purdue campus. The twelve women were Alixa Benitez, Elva Cabrera, Esperanza Casillas, Marisa Chavez, Martha Gonzalez, Jazmine Loaiza, Andrea Martinez, Karen Orduz, Diana Sanchez, Veronica Varela, and Veronica Valladolid.

On January 15, 1995, the interested women of Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority received the criteria and information from Sigma Lambda Gamma Sorority's National Board to begin the process to become a chapter. During the next few weeks, the twelve women gathered to discuss the agenda for meeting the requirements. On March 9, 1995 these twelve women were recognized as a student organization at Purdue University. After long work on April 19, 1995 they received colony status from the National Board.

During the fall semester of 1995, the group of interested women had changed. The new interested women were Esperanza Casillas, Marisa Chavez, Rebecca Deleon, Yolanda Jones, Elizabeth Maldonado, Neida Martinez, and Leticia Medina. On March 17, 1996 at the University of Illinois State University, the founders of this chapter were inducted. The women inducted were Esperanza Casillas, Elizabeth Maldonado, Neida Martinez, Leticia Medina, and Michelle Rodriguez. On February 2, 1997 at 9:57 p.m., the first line of associate members were inducted. The women inducted were Marisa Chavez, Rebecca Deleon, Joanna Diaz, Veronica Gaeta, Cristina Grey, Roxanna Mezquiti, and Maria Silva.

After long work and dedication, these women received chapter status from the National Board. On May 9, 1997 they were assigned Chi Chapter of Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority. The official founders of Chi Chapter were Esperanza Casillas, Neida Martinez, and Leticia Medina. They were initiated on May 11, 1997 at 2:05:05 a.m. also on May 11, 1997 at 2:23:34 a.m. the members of the first line were initiated. On the first line were Rebecca Deleon, Cristina Grey, Veronica Gaeta, Marisa Chavez, Joanna Diaz, Maria Silva, and Roxanna Mezquiti.
