The 2004 "Is There A God" Debate At Purdue

There was the "Is there a God" debate in March 2004 at Purdue that I went and watched in person. If you subscribe to a Center For Inquiry newsletter like "Center For Inquiry – Indiana" or "Center For Inquiry - On Campus" and join either the Purdue Skeptics Society or The Purdue Non-theists, then you can request a free tape or DVD of the meeting by contacting Debbie Goddard from the Center For Inquiry.

William Lane Craig is boring, annoying, and frustrating. W L Craig always seems to be the one on the Christian side. People other than Austin Dacey are on the Atheism side when there’s another historic philosophy or "Is There A God" speech. When will a Christian besides W L Craig be the debater? He doesn’t own the copyright to God. He’s also a little bit biased because he seems to believe that if there’s a God then it’s the God of the Christians, instead of the Deists, the Jews, the Muslims, the Sabean Mandean, the Hindus, the Buddhists, the Native Americans, the African Folk Religionists, or etc.

I believe that W L Craig made logic fallacies in his speeches. There will be more on that when I update this page later.

In the auditorium, you could fill out a survey that was passed out. It was optional that you could fill out your address. You could check a box if you wanted more information about Christianity or a different box if you wanted more info about Atheism. I checked both boxes just to get info and see what the Christians are thinking. Days later, a student that I recognize as being from Campus Crusade For Christ stopped at my dorm room because I had checked the box and he gave me a 4-page pampthlet. I believe that it lists superficial or sloppy reasons for believing in God. It’s also biased by believing that if there’s a God, then it must be the God of Christians.

These first 3 videos might work online, but they just take a little while to load when you press play.

W L Craig is strange or funny with Quantum Mechanics to describe the resurrection of Jesus on an ABC special about the resurrection: (short version, 15 frames per second) or (short version, 30 frames per second)

This is the same thing, except to make you think that I didn’t take it out of context, it’s the long version from the end of one commercial to the beginning of the next.

Here are the links for the "Is There A God" video parts:"
part  1    8:32, part  2    9:51, part  3   10:00, part  4    9:32, part  5    8:28, part  6    8:32, part  7    9:35,
part  8    7:03, part  9    8:39, part 10    8:45, part 11    5:41, part 12    5:40, part 13    9:58, part 14    9:08,

A Christian put these 14 parts online. S/he didn’t notice or didn’t care to mention the "book end" segments of an introduction and closing by D.J. Groethe in The Center For Inquiry version and that these were left out.

Somebody’s "Debunking William Lane Craig" video.

In The "Dr. William Lane Craig humiliates Dr. Peter Atkins" video, Craig seems to be using the "Proof By Verbosity" logic fallacy.

•Proof By Verbosity: burying you with so much information and misinformation that you cannot possibly respond to it all.

"William Lane Craig watched his video??? WTF!"

Other videos by Knowntje. (I am not Knowntje.)

There are 529 videos returned when I type "William Lane Craig" and 84 videos when I type, "William Craig" on Youtube. I’m sure that that are some kind-of interesting ones that I didn’t notice yet.

Campus Crusade For Christ was one of the organizations at Purdue sponsoring William Lane Craig. Campus Crusade For Christ is the same organization that had the "Do You Agree With Matt" campaign.

The Purdue Skeptics Society doesn't have meetings about religion anymore. Only the Skeptics web page still talks about religion.

If I have some more time, I’ll come back and update this page.

The views on this page are those expressed by Matt Stath and not those of William Lane Craig or Austin Dacey.
