The purpose of this website is to talk about graffiti. Graffiti normally has a bad reputation for being illegal and vandalism. I made this website
to show how graffiti can be positive, and that it is an art. It deserves recognition as an art.
So for this website I will show examples and rebut some of the main arguments about graffiti. This main page is just to show my background with art.
I have also included my definition of graffiti with some examples.

My name is Shawn Ruemler. From an early age I've been interested in art. Drawing was my
number one hobby as a kid and through elementary school. I never really had a set style,
I just enjoyed being creative. I would do anything from cartoons to realistic and life-like.
I would draw whatever I would see.
In second grade my art teacher recognized my drawing ability and had a meeting with my parents
to discuss this talent. She asked if I had taken any art classes or had lessons, and she was shocked
to find out that I hadn't. Growing up through elementary school, I was always the kid who could draw.
Towards my later years in elementary school and through Jr. High, I lost some interest in drawing and sketching
because I simply didn't have the time anymore. I was wrapped up in other things...school, sports, and friends.
I didn't really start drawing again until my senior year of high school. I took intro to 2D Art my first semester.
It really brought back alot of my interests in art and drawing, and I became the first Art Club President at Frontier High School.
I had a lot of fun and restored some of my ability. Now I draw and sketch a lot in my free-time as a hobby.
2D Art my Senior year was where I was introduced to graffiti. My teacher, Mr. Moody got me interested. We had to do a project
doing graffiti style writing and technique. We also had to play around with different styles and colors to try to get a feel for all the different kinds.
I have taken my creativity and sketching ability with me to college. I intend to use a lot of my abilities
in the major I have chosen at Purdue University, Computer Graphics Technology (CGT), and I have just recently decided to minor in Art and Design.
Sketching is still a big part of my life, whether it's for fun or for class. To the right is some of my work I've done
in the last year or two.

I intend on art having as a big influence on the rest of my life. With the field I'm going into, sketching and drawing will always
be a big part of what I do. Sketching is a huge form of comunication in whatever field I go into after I graduate. Although I'm still
unsure as to what exact field in CGT I want to go into, it will always have something to do with sketching. Even if I'm not sketching
for work, it has been and always will be a hobby of mine. Especially with my new found love of ambigrams
(which I have put a few of mine on here, to the right), sketching and drawing will always be a hobby of mine.
This semester I have taken CGT 112: Sketching for Visualisation and Communication. Next
semester I am taking 2 Art and Design classes, AD 113: Basic Sketching, and AD 383: Modern Art 20th Century. I will also be taking my CGT classes
which take a lot of art skills.

If you have any questions or comments feel free to contact me at sruemler@purdue.edu.
Also, if you have any suggestions for ambigrams, I'm always looking for some new ones to work on!
