To truly appreciate
the experience of eating at a traditional Japanese restaurant, like Nakama,
you should understand some important things about the Japanese culture.
- Japanese
food is made to share. It is common for many people to eat something from
the same dish, or for items to be served in large quantities and then
split onto individual plates or bowls.
- The Japanese
do eat with chopsticks. If you are unfamiliar or uncomfortable using
chopsticks we offer forks, and even plastic pieces to help you use
chopsticks and become more efficient with them.
- A
lot of Japanese men do business in restaurants. Nakama specifically caters
to the SIA employees for this purpose.
- It
is common for Japanese business men to drink beer or sake during their
meals.
- A
traditional Japanese meal is served in courses, with multiple appetizers
and possibily several entrees served. The meal is finished with a cup of
green tea.
- When served
drinks and food, the Japanese will make sure that others cups and plates
are full before taking some for themselves.
- When doing
business, the person of the highest authority is always served first.
These are just
some of the things to remember and be aware of when joining us at Nakama
Restaurant. |
