PowerPoint Presentation of a Short Story For the third assignment, you will need to work in pairs to prepare a PowerPoint Presentation of a short story that I will provide, and then you will need to present it to class orally. I will give you a list of all the necessary components that you will need to include in your PowerPoint Presentation, but for the time being, just know that you will need to analyze such aspects of the short story as the author, the historical and geographical setting, the narrative point of view, the characters, the themes, etc. List of the eight short stories you need to pick from for your PowerPoint Presentations. Grading Criteria The most important criterion for grading is going to be how closely and thoroughly you analyze the short story and how informed and intelligent the conclusions you draw are. To achieve this, you will need to do some library/online research about the story and its author. The second most important component of the project in terms of grading is the visual component. Since PowerPoint is a multi-media presentation, I want you to pay as much attention to how you put things on the slides as what you actually say in the slides. Paying attention to visual design principles (CRAP) will help. Thirdly, part of the grading will be based on your oral presentation of your PowerPoint to the class. In this respect, I will look at things like your pace of speaking, whether you can capture the audience’s attention, eye contact, etc. Lastly, of course, since you are using written text, part of the grading will be based on proper language use and mechanical issues like grammar and spelling. Format Not all the groups will do their oral presentations on the same day. Four groups will present on one day and the other four during the next class meeting. Since we have only fifty minutes of class time and four groups to do presentations each day, your presentation should be about ten-eleven minutes long. That means the number of slides you have in your PowerPoint Presentation should be around twelve, but the real number will depend on how much time you spend on each. Due Dates On Friday, October 13, you will need to have a draft of your PPP to class. Then, I will give some feedback on your drafts and you will need to revise your drafts and send your finished PPPs to me again before class time on Monday, October 16. If, for any reason, you cannot send it, make sure you bring it with you in a flash drive on Monday. I encourage you to go to the Writing Lab if you need extra help at any stage of your project. |
