 Course Goals:

                 

  As in introductory-level literature course, our most important goals will be;

* to acquire the basic tools to talk and write about literary works in general,

* to learn to appreciate important works of American fiction,

* to scrutinize the title “Great American Books” and evaluate the assigned books in relation to the course title,

* to acquire critical perspectives on the social history of the US as reflected in literature,

* to analyze the ways in which war has affected the human psyche in general, and the American psyche, in particular.
