HISTORY/GENERAL INFORMATION


The Publication of the Afro-Latin/American Research Association (PAL4RA). A peer reviewed, multi-lingual journal devoted to African Diaspora studies, is published annually by the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures of Purdue University-West Lafayette, and the Department of African and African American Studies of the Pennsylvania State University. PALARA is multi­disciplinary and publishes research and creativity relevant to Diaspora studies in the Americas. The journal was founded in 1996 as the scholarly publication for the Afro-Latin/American Research Association (ALARA) and housed at the University of Missouri, Columbia campus. In 2005, the journal relocated to its present physical home at Purdue University, West Lafayette campus. The journal’s founders represent pioneers and leading scholars in the field of Afro-Hispanic studies.
