Purdue's Annual Grad Prix Duathlon

2008 Grand Prix Duathlon

Welcome to the 2008 Grand Prix Duathlon, hosted by Purdue University's Triathlon Team.  This race is a low key duathlon at the beginning of the season to warmup for the year.

Weather UPDATE (4/12/08 9:45pm): The race IS Canceled.  Shirts can be picked up from the Recreational Sports Center from 11:00am to 12:00pm tomorrow, Sunday 4/13.  The wind chill is predicted to be below freezing, and that is unsafe for all involved.

  Weather UPDATE (4/12/08 7:15pm):
Grand Prix Duathlon Racers:

I just want to keep everyone informed with the status of the race.  Currently, the weather is predicted to be mid-30's with 15 mph wind and light rain/snow.  Under these conditions it is not safe to be racing.  The wind chill would be below freezing and would put the racers and volunteers in unsafe conditions.  Hypothermia becomes a big risk at these temperatures.  The weather reports have been changing all day long, but if they stay the way they are now, the race will be canceled.  A decision will be made no later than 7:30 am tomorrow morning the day of the race.  The temperature would definitely have to be above 40 with no precipitation in order to hold the race.

If the weather predictions improve, then we will plan on holding the race.  Racers should dress appropriately for the race with clothing that is rated for the weather conditions.  Racers should plan to bring warm, dry clothing with them so they can dry off and warm up after the race is over.  Also, bringing a warm beverage will help keep you warm after the race.  We are planning on having water, but it will most likely be cooled off for the race.

In the event the race is canceled we will still hold packet pickup at 11am at the Recreational Sports Center so racers can pick up their shirts.  We will most likely set up a table just inside the door, but more information will come out later if the race is canceled.
