Discipline Plan
Discipline is an integral part in many aspects of teaching. Not only does it allow you to keep order within your classes, it also aids in managing time to ensure you are able to incorporate more activities in a short amount of time. Teachers have to stay consistent with their discipline or students will start to see loopholes and try to get away with more and more as time passes. Teachers need to make sure that they present their disciplinary tactics in a positive manner to make sure they do not hurt the feelings of the students and cause future problems. I will now explain disciplinary tactics that will be used within my class. Each day, students can receive a total of 3 points. Each point is broken up as follows: Dressing out in proper attire – 1pt Classroom Participation – 1 pt Attitude in the Classroom – 1 pt
Dressing out in proper attire - My students are going to be expected to dress out every day because proper dress allows students to move freely about the gym during activities. I will allow them 3 no dresses per semester. After the 3rd “no dress”, then I will give them a 0 for every day that the student does not dress out. Classroom Participation - Students are expected to participate in all activities during class. If a student chooses not to participate in any 1 activity, then they will receive a 0 for they day in this category. Students will be expected to participate even if they are not dressed appropriately, however if they do not have proper shoes, then it is unsafe for them to be participating in activities so they will receive a 0 for the day in participation. Attitude in the Classroom - All students are to maintain a positive attitude within each class. If a student complains about activities or who they are asked to work with, then they will receive a 0 for the day. If a student uses foul language during class, then they will receive a 0 for the day. Any other action deemed inappropriate by the teacher will result in a 0 for the day as well. If a student does not complete a written assessment that will be passed out at the end of some classes, then they will receive a 0 for the day as well for their attitude.
Students will work off of a 3 strike program for inappropriate behavior: - Strike one or 1st offense: Verbal warning by the teacher and it will be documented by the teacher as well. - Strike 2 or 2nd offense: Written warning explaining to the student of their inappropriate behavior and a letter will be sent home to the parents stating both offenses. - Strike 3 or 3rd offense: Referral to the principal’s office with a letter sent home to the student’s parents explaining the situation. A meeting with the parents will also be required by the teacher. Actions Focused With Managing The Classroom To prevent inappropriate behavior, I will use many methods. Firstly, I plan on utilizing positive reinforcement with my students. Praising those that are on task and working properly should eliminate many problems from occurring and it should encourage all students to behave in that manner. For example, if there are students talking while I am giving instruction, then I will praise those students who are listening quietly which should encourage others to do the same. Often, I will also incorporate personal reflections at the end of class to allow students to express how they think they did for that day. This will allow me to see if students feel whether or not they behaved properly or if there are things they feel they need to work on.
Possible Situations If a student… - Has the possession of, or is under the influence of any illegal drugs or alcohol, then the student will be referred to the principal’s office for proper legal enforcement to occur. - Hazes another student, then they will be directly sent to the principal’s office and a letter home to the parents will be sent. - Uses foul language, then they will be receive a strike on their record with the teacher. Refer to the 3 strike program for proper disciplinary actions. |
