My Other Interests
Apart from my academics and research I have quite a few other interests also, which I follow very keenly.
Cricket
Just like any other Indian kid, I ate, drank, slept(and of course played)cricket during my childhood and that interest still remains in me even if the intent might have reduced a bit.
I belong to the group which believes "Cricket is our religion and Sachin is the God". I have always loved watching him play and i get really excited even today when I watch some of his best innings. I am not sure if I will follow Indian cricket with the same amount of interest once he decides to hang his boots.
Music
One of the biggest relaxations for me is listening to music. I listen to all kinds of music with considerably more preference for soft numbers. One of the constancies in the music I listen to is a particular singer whom I consider to be the most talented among the current generation of singers in India. Any one who follows Indian music with some amount of interest will not think twice before giving the answer to the previous question as Shreya Ghoshal. I started liking her voice right from the first song I heard her sing and it is quite unbelievable how someone can have such a sweet voice. Take time to visit my blog to see how i brag about her, what I think about her latest numbers, and also read other news items related to her.
Films
I am a very keen follower of Tamil cinema and there are not too many movies I miss (while there are not too many movies I watch in other languages). I have been, I am and I will continue to be a fan of 'Super Star' Rajinikanth. For most people of my age who spent their childhood in Tamil Nadu, this is bound to be a common trait (just like being fans of Sachin). Apart from a good actor he is a great human being and is a big inspiration and role model on how to lead a simple life even when you reach great heights. If I can successfully follow 10 % of his principles, I will be happy.
Thamizh
It might not be a great surprise if someone mentions that he loves his mother tongue. But I am mentioning my mother tongue as one of my interests because of the simple fact that it is not of great interest to others from my state Thamizh Nadu(aka Tamil Nadu ) which is supposed to be comprised of people who speak this language. It might be a bit ironical that I learnt to read and write it, not before 1992 when I was in Class 2. But my flair for the language kept increasing and I can tell(with great pride) that the same amount of knowledge in Thamizh is very hard to find among people of my age right now. Here, I would like to mention that, ideally everyone born in Thamizh Nadu should be able to write, read and use the language at will. Sadly, this is not the current scenario and it is not bound to get any better.
