Post-season party
Posted: 04/06/2008

After winning their 7th Big Ten Tournament championship and advancing to the 2nd round of the NCAA Tournament, the Boilers’ season is over. However, we have one final event planned for all members. The post-season party is scheduled for Tuesday, April 15 at 6:00 in the Kissell Center. We will have pizza and pop; and the team will be in attendance so you can get to know them a little bit better. Come congratulate them on a great season!

Also, we will hold elections for next year’s officers in conjunction with the party. If you are interested in running, please contact me by Sunday, April 13 with the position you would like to run for.

Thanks for your support all season!

Big Ten Tourney Champs

Purdue once again won the Big Ten Tournament, defeating Illinois 58-56 on a game-winning shot by Kiki Freeman. With this, they secured a spot in the NCAA Tournament. Their first round game is this Sunday, March 23 at 7:00 p.m. As the 9 seed, they begin play against the 8 seed Utah at Mackey Arena. Should they win, they will likely face the 1 seed Tennessee on Tuesday night (time TBA), once again at Mackey.

If you are interested in attending, student all-session passes are $28 and student single-session passes are $11 (general admission are $38 and $18, respectively). The Gold Mine will be purchasing a block of tickets at the rate of $24/person (all-session pass). If you are interested, please e-mail me by tonight (Wednesday, March 19) at 10:00 p.m. at sandjeli@purdue.edu. I will be purchasing the tickets tomorrow morning. Also, if you plan to pay via credit card, please include your full name (as on the credit card), credit card #, and expiration date in the e-mail. Should you wish to pay via cash or check (payable to “Purdue University"), please drop your payment off in the Promotions office (Room 69, Mackey Arena) by 5:00 p.m. today.

For complete information on the first two rounds, please visit http://purduesports.cstv.com/sports/w-baskbl/spec-rel/08-ncaa/wbb-ncaa-tourney-08.html.

Boiler Up!

Purdue @ Northwestern
Posted: 01/26/2008

Next Sunday, February 3, Purdue will play at Northwestern. Because of the close proximity, there are a few Gold Mine officers who will be driving up there. If anyone is interested in carpooling to Chicago, send me an e-mail (sandjeli@purdue.edu) and I’ll get everything organized. Be aware that this is Super Bowl Sunday. However, the game starts at 2:00 EST, so you should be back in plenty of time to see kick-off (although I can’t guarantee you’ll see the entire 5-hour pre-game show).

The top two male and female participants will get the chance to square off at halftime of the Notre Dame game for a chance to win two all session passes to the Women’s Big Ten Tournament in Indianapolis, along with free transportation to the first round game! Bring your ticket to the game for free food and drinks from 2-4 p.m. and watch the Boilermakers take on the Irish in Mackey at 4 p.m. This is one event you won’t want to miss!

Purdue vs. UNC
Posted: 11/26/2007

It was a rough weekend for the Boilers in the Virgin Islands. Despite what looked like a promising 12-2 run to start the game against Duke, Purdue went 0-3 for the weekend, losing to Duke, Temple, and Old Dominion. One bright spot, however, was Danielle Campbell, who followed up her triple-double performance against Butler last week with 15+ points/game this past weekend. Hopefully the Boilers can turn it around when they take on UNC later this week….which brings me to the point of this post.

UNC GAME
The Gold Mine reserved a room for Thursday night to watch the Purdue vs. UNC game. The game starts at 7:00 (on ESPN2); but you can come anytime from 6:30 on. We will be in the VIP room, which is room 33 in the basement of Mackey. We’ll have signs pointing you in the right direction; but the easiest way to get there is to go down the Athlete’s Entrance (the set of stairs between Gates A and B). When you get down the stairs, turn right. The VIP room will be on your right (the walls surrounding the doors are wood). The sign on the wall says “King Conference Room” (or something like that).

Pizza, drinks, and other snacks will be available; but feel free to bring your own chips (or whatever else you want) as well.

Another season has finally begun! It may have been a close one last night, but the Boilers pulled off a win against Valpo, 65-62. Despite shooting only 35% for the game, 4 players ended up with double digit points (including an impressive 17-point, 7-rebound performance by freshman Samantha Woods).

Head over to Mackey on Saturday for yet another in-state showdown as Purdue takes on Butler at 7:00 p.m.

T-SHIRTS
For those of you who have not picked up your shirts, they are available inside Gate C until 5 minutes before tip-off. If you’d like to order any additional shirts (they make great Christmas presents!), we’ll have order forms available pre-game as well.

SCOTTY’S SUPERFAN CARDS
Remember to get your Scotty’s card punched at the GM table before the game. Come to at least 11 games this year to guarantee yourself a spot for the Illinois trip on March 2 (plus a free lunch at Scotty’s Brewhouse).

WAL-MART GIFT CARDS
You now have an additional incentive to attend the games. Wal-Mart has graciously decided to present $10 gift cards to any Gold Mine member who attends at least 10 games this season. We will have a sign-up sheet available before the games, so check your names off as you come in. **For those of you who have not yet joined the Gold Mine: $5 membership fee = $10 gift card.

That’s all for now. Hope to see you all on Saturday!

Michigan State x3
Posted: 03/02/2007

though it was close, our Boilers defeated Wisconsin in OT Friday afternoon. Their next game will be the semifinal contest against Michigan State on Sunday at 5pm. Purdue and MSU split the season series with each winning the away match-up. The other semi-final game will feature the IU/OSU winner against the Penn State/Illinois winner. Watch the Boilers 5pm on Sunday on Comcast SportsNet Chicago.

Showdown in the Mack Daddy
Posted: 01/26/2007

Oh no, we didn’t just win our first 8 Big Ten games. And, look at O$U - also undefeated. This creates quite a clash for Monday evening. 7pm. ESPN2. I’ve already been guaranteed by many Gold Mine members that crazy costumes and body paint will be present at the game. Let’s hope so. O$U needs to wish that they had never set foot in Mackey Arena. And we need to win to move one step closer to hanging another banner. Eat lots of sugar. We’re gonna need the energy on Monday.

Update
Posted: 01/15/2007

The #13 Boilers (16-3, 5-0 Big Ten) rolled through non-conference and have had the same dominate play during the beginning of conference play. In the next three games, Purdue will see Northwestern twice (1/18, 1/25) and travel down to Bloomington for the 2nd rival game in a week’s time. In a perfect world, the players would only focus on the upcoming game, but it would be impossible to ignore the showdown which will take play in West Lafayette on 1/29. Ohio State at Purdue. ESPN2. This is the only time the two teams will clash this year, and it very well may determine the Big Ten Champion. Stay tuned for special Gold Mine activities for the OSU game.

IU Road trip on Sunday 1/21. Email Megan if you are interested in joining the trip!

Katie Gearlds and L.W…H named to All-Tournamet Team
KG was also the tournament’s MVP

So, anyone who thought that a good ACC school would present any sort of a challenge to our Boilers was insanely wrong. Purdue absolutely dismantled N.C. State on Wednesday night. Besides a cold shooting spell in the 2nd half, the Boilers cruised…easily running their offense and forcing the Wolf Pack to their lowest score…EVER…in the history of their program. This is going to be a fun season.

Next Game: The Doubleheader on Friday!!! 6pm but doors open at 5pm and seating is general admission. Boiler Up!

Exhibition is done and we’re rolling through the WNIT. Belmont: check. Hartford: check. Next up: the NC State Wolf Pack on Wednesday at 7pm. Get your tickets now! They are NOT included in the season ticket packages - but are only $8 anyways. In Sunday night’s game, Fahkara dominated like whoa. 15 points, 7 steals (and she sat out most of the 2nd half.) The 7 steals for a freshman ties the record set by…who else…Coach Versyp and matched later by Katie Gearlds (among others.) Check out Old Gold Free Press for a better recap of the game…http://oldgoldfreepress.com/columnist/Capri_Small/columns/171.shtml

The season is finally underway! Our Boilers made pretty easy work of the Ohio “Legends” on Thursday night 70-41. Although it wasn’t the cleanest game we’ve ever played (see 20 turnovers), our outside shooters lit it up and Erin Lawless was a beast! If LW…H isn’t the most complete player we have, then I don’t know what the hell I’m watching (10 points, 8 rebounds, 5 steals and 2 blocks.) It was clear as the game went on that our offensive and defensive sets were starting to sink in, especially when they could be played against a team other than the RIPs. We were slightly rusty and our ball-handling skills will have to be…addressed - though I’m sure Coach V has already fixed it - but this season is going to be very exciting. I think we’re gonna do some big things.

Make sure head over to Mackey on Sunday at 3pm for our second and last exhibition game against the Hoosier All-Stars (I never thought I would include the words “Hoosier” and “All-Star” in the same sentence.) Boiler Up!

That’s the theme for the 2006-07 season.

Our women’s basketball team has won 4 Big Ten Titles, 5 Conference Tourneys, and a National Championship in the past 10 years, including a 26-7, Sweet Sixteen campaign last season. Yet…in the last 2 seasons, we’ve come up short in Conference and the Big Dance. That’s about to change this year with our Return to GLORY.

New Coach…
New Team…
New Banners…

Don’t sit around your dorm or apartment when you could be cheering on Purdue’s most successful team in the Mack Daddy! Don’t be that guy (or girl)!!

Join the GoldMine today for only $5, and you’ll be sitting courtside for the greatest show in women’s basketball. The team needs you!
