The American Chemical Society Student Affiliates is one of many undergraduate chemistry chapter that is part of a larger national organization. The American Chemical Society is recognized nationally by many in the industry and scientific community. Many of the chemistry professors here at Purdue are members themselves, so take advantage of our reputation and become part of a prestigious organization!

A major advantage of becoming a member is that you will have top priotity notification of all kinds of events that you could attend to help you get that coveted internship, or an edge on research with a top notch professor. This organization gives students a means to network with people in the industry and community, and overall is a great way to meet people with similar interests and goals.

We like to keep ourselves busy, so we always have all sorts of events for our members to gain experience from. There will be events that will allow you meet new people in the scientific community, such as the Research Symposium that a few of our members had attended. This is a great way to get your name or organization recognition, and a great resume booster. We are also involved in helping out the community around us. We will be participating in National Chemistry Week, where some of us will volunteer in the stockroom, and others will teach elementary school children about chemistry in the classroom. Some members have also signed up to write tests for Science Olympiad, and others will be helping out during the event. And of course, there are plenty of social events for you to meet new people, eat lots of food, and to just have some fun.

As I am sure you have all noticed by now, the ACS is an educational organization. What does that mean, you ask? Our focus is for everyone part of this club to learn new ideas outside of the classroom and to expand your horizons. There are many oppurtunities which will help you gain new insights, and to become more knowledgable not just in chemistry, but within the sciences as a whole.
