Network approaches to disaster evaluation

Current primary research area is modeling the impact of extreme weather events on the infrastructure system of the Eastern United States. Currently, I am studying how models of disaster imapct can be improved by including additional information about the shape of the disaster. The goal is to better understand how hurricanes and other major disasters effect the post-disaster recovery of a city.

Below is a sample of different ways a hurricane can impact the distribution of electric power. We show that if we assume a hurricane's imapct has a spatial distribution (center and right plots) that it significantly alters how the city recovers.
