Sculpture Workshops   rpaul@purdue.edu

In a lecture delivered at Ohio State in 1986, I proposed an undergraduate and graduate sculpture curriculum which included computers. Since then tecnnological advances have made this prediction an affordable reality for most university art departments. Unfortunately, most sculpture areas do not have the know-how to do much more than virtual objects.

I have been using my own personal computer since 1984 to facilitate construction of my work. Currently I am developing my own software to make sculptural objects from models created in 3D Studio and Studio Max. This proprietary software will provide me with the capability to easily construct just about any computer model any size from a flat material. I am working on a second program to transpose hand drawn images to three dimensional sufraces with the intention of laser cutting images on the surface of my sculptures.

If this approach to making three dimensional objects interests you, feel free to contact me about more information. I also have prepared a workshop and slide presentation. The workshop demonstrates firsthand three dimensional computer applications. The slide presentation encompasses various methods of making real objects from virtual models. I furnish all necessary hardware and software for the workshop.
