What is Buddhism?

Buddhism is a religion and philosophical system which studies how we can bring about liberation, peace and joy through looking deeply into our experience of reality. Buddhist practice centers around training and disciplining the mind through applying the teachings of Siddhārtha Guatama, an ancient Indian prince who abandoned his royalty to learn how to bring an end to suffering. Upon realizing these teachings it is believed he became a Buddha or an "awakened one". His teachings are practiced today as a systematic method of cultivating happiness and ending suffering. Please enjoy our introduction to Buddhism.

"We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves." - Buddha
