Our research interests are advanced materials synthesis and processing, specifically in scalable manufacturing of 0D-3D micro/nanostructures, laser matter interaction, and mechanical/physical property enhancement of materials. The applications are in energy transport, conversion and storage, load bearing, biomedical, electrical and optical devices. Dr. Cheng received his Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Columbia University in 2002. He received the Young Investigator Award from the Office of Naval Research (ONR) in 2007, the CAREER Award from the National Science Foundation (NSF) in 2006, Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer award from the Society of Manufacturing Engineer (SME) in 2007, ASME Chao&Trigger Young Investigator award in 2012. He was elected ASME Fellow in 2013, and AAAS fellow in 2021. Dr. Cheng serves as an associate Editor for Journal of Manufacturing Science and Engineering, Journal of Manufacturing Process, and was a subject editor for Journal of Materials Processing and Technology. |
