The Purdue Rifle Team is a club sport under Purdue’s Recreation and Wellness. We are a member of the Western Intercollegiate Rifle Conference which includes teams from as far away as North Dakota and school club programs such as Michigan, Michigan State, and Clemson. Purdue Rifle used to be a Varsity Sport for Purdue since at least as early as the 20s were you can find pictures of members of the team in the Purdue Debris.
As a club sport, the Rifle Team competes with over 300 programs in the nation. They host the Boilermaker Invitational each fall at Purdue. This event draws some of the best shooters in collegiate shooting. The competition is open to spectators as well. The team has opportunities to travel to various out of- and in-state competitions. Team members can utilize team assets such as shooting coats and pants, air rifles, and smallbore rifles if they don’t own such equipment.
As a Club Team, the Rifle Team will compete in a nationwide Sectional competition each spring. The top 10 teams in the country from Sectionals qualify to attend the NRA’s Intercollegiate Rifle Club Championships held at Ft Benning’s Army Marksmanship Unit.
