Rules for League Play
2021
PLEASE NOTE: Please read this information carefully.
A $10 entry fee is charged each
member of the league, and must be paid prior to the end of the
season. Please send your entry fee thru campus mail to Kyle Banter, STDM.
Handicaps:
Handicaps will be calculated as follows: You will start with last year’s ending handicap. Then, we will use a running average of all of your scores to continually adjust your handicap. That handicap will be 85% of the difference between your average score and par 36, up to a maximum of 20. Fractional values in the handicap will be truncated.
Trophies:
The PPGA "Player of the Year" traveling trophy will be presented at the PPGA Open to the player who accumulates the most points for the season, based on weekly points as noted below.
The PPGA "Sportsman of the Year" traveling trophy will be presented at the PPGA Open to the player chosen by the current sportsman of the year.
The PPGA "Low Average Trophy" will be presented at the PPGA Open to the player who has the lowest stroke average for the season. To qualify, a minimum of 13 rounds is required.
The PPGA "Putting Trophy" will be presented at the PPGA Open to the player who accumulates the most putting points for the season.
Scoring:
Scorecards must be signed, dated and left in the PPGA score box at the Purdue Pro Shop by Friday morning before 7:30 a.m. to be counted. Cards received after that time will not count. Player’s names must be clearly legible with both first and last names used. Only scores from the designated course will be accepted.
When a league member will be out of town (e.g., vacation) or otherwise unable to play during a regular league week, the player may elect to submit a score for that week any time AFTER their previous week's round but before 7:30 AM on Friday of the week in question. The round must be on the course scheduled that week to be accepted. It must be signed and attested, and must show the date the round was actually played PLUS the league date for which the player wishes the round to count.
In
an effort to make our league competitive across all handicap levels, the league
awards points based on the rules below:

Turn in completed score card and receive 3
participation points only if played on the designated Purdue course on
Wednesday.
Participants in the first two tournaments will receive 5 points. No points will be awarded for placement in the tournament.
Tournaments:
Three tournaments are planned for this
season. They are:
Annual Pre-Season Tournament
PPGA Open (site to be determined)
Rules of play:
Rules
of the USGA will govern all play with these exceptions:
No mulligans are allowed on the first tee or any other shot during your round.
Winter Rules will be observed only in the fairway. Roll the ball over with your club within a 6" radius of the original position. Winter Rules do not apply in a hazard or the rough.
All putts must be holed out. No "gimmees" allowed.
There are just too many different thoughts on what a “gimmee” should be.
Please
communicate before rounds about the use of flagsticks with your playing
partners. This will help avoid confusion while on the green when players are
ready to play. Some may like it in, while others may not (Please discuss
preference before round to help each other the best we can).
Play during rain or inclement weather
at your own discretion. If the horn sounds on Wednesday and the course closes
and issues rain checks, rounds may be completed following the last completed hole. Turn in cards by Sunday evening.
Participation points will be awarded for those rained out.
In
the event of a lost ball or a ball hit out-of-bounds during PPGA league play,
the player will incur a one-stroke penalty. To continue play, he/she must determine the
last point at which the ball was seen (for a lost ball) and/or the spot where
the ball went out-of-bounds.
For
a lost ball, the player must drop the ball at a spot behind the point where it
was last seen, keeping that point on a direct line between the hole and the
spot where the ball is to be dropped, but with no limit as to how far behind
that point the ball may be dropped (Note: this is NOT to be confused with the
ball's original line of flight, which may not be used to determine the spot on
which to drop the ball). The only
exception to this rule is that if the player wishes, he/she may drop the ball
as close as possible to the exact spot from which their last shot was played,
with one stroke penalty, which in essence becomes a stroke and distance penalty.
For a ball hit out-of-bounds, the player
is allowed to establish the point of relief within two club lengths relief from
the out-of-bounds, and then he/she must drop the ball at a spot behind that
point, keeping that point on a direct line between the hole and the spot where
the ball is to be dropped, but with no limit as to how far behind that point
the ball may be dropped (Note: this is NOT to be confused with the ball's
original line of flight, which may not be used to determine the spot on which
to drop the ball).
The only exception to this rule is that if the player wishes, he/she may drop
the ball as close as possible to the exact spot from which their last shot was
played, with one stroke penalty, which in essence becomes a stroke and distance
penalty.
Playing by yourself on league night is
strongly discouraged. Please avoid if possible.
Tees:
Handicaps will be used to determine which tee is used for players under 70
years old.
We will be using the same sets of tees
on both courses. Gold – regular, silver – forward.
If your handicap is 12 or above at the
beginning of the round, you may choose to play from the silver tees. If your handicap is 11 or less you will play
from the gold tees.
Those over 70 may play from the silver
tees.
The use of distance measuring devices (DMDs) will be allowed during league play and tournaments. Be a good sport and help your fellow league members if you have and use a distance measuring device.
