Dr. Yoo serves as a full Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Purdue University Fort Wayne (PFW). She earned her Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities in 2007, and also holds an M.S. degree in Computer Science from the same institution. Dr. Yoo completed her Bachelor's degrees in both Computer Science and Statistics from Korea University (Known as Goryeo University in Korea). Before transitioning to academia, she spent seven years as a software engineer at Samsung SDS Co.

Research

Dr. Yoo excels in data and knowledge engineering, emphasizing data mining and its integration with machine learning. Building on her deep understanding of machine learning, she meticulously studies algorithms and models to devise innovative methods tailored for intricate data challenges. Her research ties closely with location-based computing and services. Dedicated to fine-tuning computational processes for efficient data handling and analysis, she formulates robust algorithms and methods that favor data-driven insights and efficient data management. Dr. Yoo also delves deeply into big data analytics, addressing the challenges of our data-rich era. Beyond the technical realm, she's keenly interested in the broader societal benefits of machine learning and Data Science, creating solutions that benefit diverse sectors, from public safety and health to biomedicine, education, and business.

Throughout her career, Dr. Yoo's research endeavors have garnered support from prestigious entities like the U.S. Air Force Office of Scientific Research, the Air Force Research Laboratory, Microsoft, Amazon, Purdue Research Foundation, Griffiss Institute/SUNY Research Foundation, Indiana University, and more. She has had the honor of being a U.S. Air Force faculty fellow and has collaborated as a visiting research faculty at both the Air Force Research Laboratory/Rome Research Site and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).

Her professional engagements extend to organizing and contributing to numerous international conferences. Dr. Yoo has also dedicated her expertise to reviewing for esteemed journals, including IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering (TKDE) and IEEE Transactions on Knowledge Discovery in Data (TKDD). Moreover, she has been a sought-after reviewer for funding proposals, lending her insights to NSF programs like NSF-CISE/Big Data, NSF-CISE/IIS, NSF-TUSE, and NSF-CCLI, along with other significant government-backed research initiatives.
