The Introductory Composition at Purdue (ICaP) is one of the leading programs in its field. We have about 150 teachers serving over 5000 students a year. It's a daunting task, but somehow we keep things moving forward. Most of the credit goes to our outstanding teachers.
My job is to keep us on task and look for places where we can improve the program. Right now, the Introductory Writing Committee and I are working on issues involving diversity and assessment. We are also trying to solidify the program's innovative use of "syllabus approaches" that allow teachers to approach the teaching of writing from a variety of different directions.
