The Assistive Technology Center (ATC) promotes an accessible information technology infrastructure at Purdue that is usable by all students, faculty, and staff regardless of disability status.
The ATC does this by providing:
Students can use a wide variety of assistive technologies to meet their information access and computing needs. These include stand-alone equipment, adaptive software, and adaptive hardware.
Students can receive individualized training by appointment for each item of assistive technology. Online training on assistive technology is also available for most assitive technology at the ATC.
The ATC will assist eligible Purdue students with evaluation, installation, and maintenance of Purdue assistive software to accomplish their educational goals and objectives. The software currently availible for loan to eligible students includes:
Most of the services available through the Assistive Technology Center can only be provided to students, faculty or staff who are eligible because of disability status. The ATC does not determine eligibility~those decisions are made by the Disability Resource Center, the Affirmative Action Office, or Human Resource Services.
For students, eligibility is determined by the Disability Resource Center (http://www.purdue.edu/odos/drc). Students should contact the DRC (765-494-1247 or drc@purdue.edu) to speak with a program specialist.
For faculty and staff, eligibility is determined by either Human Resource Services or the Affirmative Action Office based on an evaluation of disability status under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Faculty or staff may contact Pat D. Russell, the ADA /Leaves/CDL Program Consultant in Human Resource Services at 494-0269 or at prussell@purdue.edu. Marcy Hintzman, Assistant Director, Compliance and Disability Services in the Affirmative Action Office, may be contacted at 494-7253 or at mhintzma@purdue.edu.
