Assistive Technology Center Mission

The Assistive Technology Center (ATC) promotes an accessible information technology infrastructure at Purdue that is usable by all students, faculty, and staff regardless of disability status.

The ATC does this by providing:

Assistive Technology for Students

On-Campus Assistive Technology

Students can use a wide variety of assistive technologies to meet their information access and computing needs. These include stand-alone equipment, adaptive software, and adaptive hardware.

Screen Enlargement

Voice Input

Text-to-Speech

Braille

Alternate Keyboards

Alternate Pointing Devices

CCTVs (Closed Circuit Televisions) or Video Enlargers

Adjustable Furniture

Assistive Listening Systems


Assistive Technology Availibility in other ITaP Labs

Most ATC software can be made available in other ITaP labs for class use. Please contact your Disability Resource Center Counselor for more information.

Assistive Technology Training

Students can receive individualized training by appointment for each item of assistive technology. Online training on assistive technology is also available for most assitive technology at the ATC.

Assistive Technology Loan

The ATC will assist eligible Purdue students with evaluation, installation, and maintenance of Purdue assistive software to accomplish their educational goals and objectives. The software currently availible for loan to eligible students includes:

Eligibility for ATC services

Most of the services available through the Assistive Technology Center can only be provided to students, faculty or staff who are eligible because of disability status. The ATC does not determine eligibility~those decisions are made by the Disability Resource Center, the Affirmative Action Office, or Human Resource Services.

For students, eligibility is determined by the Disability Resource Center (http://www.purdue.edu/odos/drc). Students should contact the DRC (765-494-1247 or drc@purdue.edu) to speak with a program specialist.

For faculty and staff, eligibility is determined by either Human Resource Services or the Affirmative Action Office based on an evaluation of disability status under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Faculty or staff may contact Pat D. Russell, the ADA /Leaves/CDL Program Consultant in Human Resource Services at 494-0269 or at prussell@purdue.edu. Marcy Hintzman, Assistant Director, Compliance and Disability Services in the Affirmative Action Office, may be contacted at 494-7253 or at mhintzma@purdue.edu.
