LANG 20100 Placement (Before Catalog Fall 2023)

Students may use LANG 20100 placement results to waiver LANG I and II. Their degree audit will update with the waiver, and six (6) credits of the FLC requirement will move to elective credit to meet the minimum 120 credit hour University requirement. Students may complete the requirement by completing an approved culture/diversity course or study abroad program.

Catalog Fall 2023 (onwards) students CANNOT waive requirement based on placement exam.

  • LANG 20100 +( placement course completion). Students who post LANG 20100 and higher coursework will waive LANG I and II. Higher-level coursework will apply to the elective area.
  • International students gaining US citizenship status will waive LANG I and II.
  • Students who document immersion in a culture other than the US culture can set up an interview with the College of Science by emailing scienceadvising@purdue.edu to request an interview. At that time the student will describe theirexperience. If approved, LANG I and II is waived.

JEDI info- JEDI list:

  • The UCORE/SCI JEDI list allows LANG courses to meet the JEDI requirement. As long as language courses are on the JEDI list, they can meet the JEDI requirement for CoS.
  • A student can take 3 language courses and if one is a JEDI course, the requirement is filled
  • They could also take two courses in one language, and then one course in a different language
  • Reminder that Language and Culture is a 9 credit requirement, and some jedi courses are only one and two credits. If their three courses do not total at least 9, the requirement is not filled
  • Some courses, like Japanese, are 4 credits, so in such a case, a student could take two Japanese courses and also a 1 credit course. In this instance they would have 9 total credits and the requirement would be fulfilled.
