Decided to graduate in a different term than the one you applied to graduate to:

Q: I am no longer planning to graduate in the term that I applied. I cannot change my application. What do I do?
A: E-mail commencement@purdue.edu and copy your advisor from your Purdue e-mail to notify us of the change. We will remove the application to allow you to submit a new application for the new term.

Grades are posted:

Grades are posted on Wednesday following the final exam week. Advisors are looking at all candidates for clearance. We have to return the following three options to the registrar by Thursday:

OFF – Student does not meet degree requirements

CLEAR – Students met all degree requirements, ready to confer degree

HOLD – Max of 30 days to clear degree

The hold has to be cleared within 30 calendar days following the end of the session, for these requirements to be completed in order for the degree to be conferred for that session. Academic requirements that have not been completed, as of the end of the 30-day period, shall disqualify the student from receiving the degree in the intended session and shall delay the conferring of the degree until the end of the next session in which the student is duly registered and all degree requirements have been completed.

Do Students who have met all requirements HAVE to graduate?

We cannot MAKE a student graduate, but international students and/or students with financial aid have other rules/obligations that may make them graduate.  If neither of these pertain to this student, then they can graduate when they want. (Email 9/12/2022)

Post – Bachelors Registration (not an option for International Students):

Students can still register for classes after graduation. In order to do this, students need to do an online Re-Entry form. (If you have earned a Purdue degree in the past, you're a re-entry student even if you just want to take individual classes.)

* International Students

According to the ISS office, International students can't be taking courses Post-Bachelors because they need to be degree seeking; this is a federal law.

I-20 - It is a federal immigration law that international students must graduate when they have met requirements.  Even if your I-20 does not expire until far in the future, be forewarned that your I-20 will be revised due to your graduation.

If you have further questions, you are asked to see an advisor in ISS because this is an issue with your immigration status.
