There are a lot of cell phone companies that you can get a service from. Usually if you sign a 2/3 year contract you can get a phone free or very cheap. But if you have a phone, you may find cheaper services with no obligation and you can change your company if you're not satisfied with the service. Here are the major cell phone companies, compare their plans and choose the one suits you best:
- AT&T Wireless
- Verizon Wireless
- T-mobile
- Sprint
If you decided to change you cell phone company you can transfer you phone number from one company to another.
There are also less famous/typically cheaper options. These companies typically offer pre-paid services. Here are some of them:
- Straight Talk [you can buy it at Walmart]
- PTel [cheapest option in my opinoin, if you can don't use it much and just want to have a number]
