What is Nuclear
Pharmacy? |
Nuclear Pharmacy is a patient-oriented practice that encompasses the
scientific and professional knowledge required to improve and foster health
through the safe and effective use of radioactive pharmaceuticals for
diagnosis and therapy. Radioactive pharmaceuticals are the ones that contain
minute amounts of unstable, or radioactive, elements. With proper handling,
these radioactive elements are very safe and contribute a great deal to diagnostic imaging and therapeutic treatment of certain
diseases. What is The Society of Nuclear Pharmacy? In the spring of 1993, a group of pharmacy students at Purdue were
interested in interacting with other students who shared their interest in
nuclear pharmacy. Their goals included learning more about the nuclear
pharmacy companies they might eventually work for, either as interns or as
pharmacists, and more about nuclear pharmacy and nuclear medicine. On August
25, 1993, the Constitution for the organization was approved by the members,
and the organization was recognized by Purdue. SNP holds a general meeting once a month. You can find the date and time of the next meeting by clicking here. Visitors are always welcome at any of the general meetings. Any changes to the meeting schedule and rooms where meetings will take
place will be posted on the SNP Bulletin Boards located outside RHPH 164 and
on the 3rd floor near the computer lab. The changes will be posted on this
web page as well. What Programs are offered to members? The Society invites people who are involved in various areas of nuclear
pharmacy and nuclear medicine to come and speak on topics of interest to the
members. Programs may also include workshops where underclassmen can learn
about the interviewing process and summer internships from upperclassmen. The
Society will continue to participate in a varity of
community service projects within the community. Community service
projects will be determined by the members of the society. Any student in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmacal
Sciences with an interest in nuclear pharmacy may join. This includes
pre-pharmacy students who would like to become involved with nuclear pharmacy
or learn more about careers in this specialized area. Dues are $15 for a semester or $25 for the year. If you would like to join
at semester time, please contact the club treasurer. Your fees come back to
you in the form of food at meetings, field trips, and other nuclear pharmacy
learning opportunities Any regular member whose dues are current may run for office. Regular elections are held during the last meeting of the year in April with the new officers assuming their duties at the start of the school year. Visitors are always welcome at our meetings! |
