What is SHOTS?

SHOTS is a volunteer based organization that stresses dedication. It is a group committed to helping out the community on a regular basis, rather than sporadically like many of the volunteer organizations that you will encounter on campus.

Why join SHOTS?

We do all the work for you. All you need to tell us is when you're free, and what sort of volunteer work or position you would like to have, and we'll find it for you. Rides will be arranged, and the times will be convenient for you, since you're the one picking them. You go back to the same select few places and volunteer with the same people, so you'll get to know them, and they'll get to know you. This means great recommendation letters, and other opportunities that are sure to follow. We keep track of the hours that you volunteered, and you set your own goal and pace. We will make sure that you stay with your goals. We even give you certificates as you finish a certain number of goal hours.

Will this take a lot of my time?

Only as much as you want to put into it. We would like for you to volunteer a few hours a month, but beyond that, it is your choice as to how many hours you would like to invest in this. This organization is here to make your life easier, if you need volunteer hours, great recommendation letters, a good aspect to put on your resume, and for the simple selfless act of helping someone else. You go back to the same places, so you get to know the people you're volunteering for and with. Dedication is the key, so even if you only put in 2 hours a week, make it consistent.

How can I be a part of this?

Sign up on the email list setup for you by the doors, and we will mail you regarding the call out, and any other relevant information. The choice is yours and you have nothing to lose and much to gain. Dedication is absolute, since this takes a lot of hours on the part of the board members, we ask that you sign up, only if you are interested in being a dedicated volunteer.

Anything else?

We provide you with constant opportunities of interest and reminders, so all you have to do is volunteer, and not worry about the formalities, rituals, and politics involved with so many of the volunteer organizations on our campus. Best of all, you don't have to waste time looking for places to volunteer that will fit your schedule….. we do it for you. Every volunteer gets a personal folder, so you never have to worry about keeping track of where and when you volunteered. The first step in changing things for the better begins here.
