LGBTQ Student Alliance Positions

There are three different forms of positions and memberships within the LGBTQ Student Alliance. The first two are membership positions. You may either be a general member or a voting member. There are also executive board positions that consist of President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary. Lastly, there are committee chair positions that may be appointed by the President, and they consist of the Diversity, Social, Activist, Public Relations, Technology, and Fundraising Committees.

Members

General Member

General members are students who have opted to subscribe to the LGBTQ S.A.'s official media sources, which may include but is not limited to the LGBTQ S.A. Listserv, the LGBTQ Student Alliance Facebook, and the LGBTQ S.A. Official Twitter Account. These members shall receive updates on the activities of the LGBTQ S.A. and are invited to attend all official LGBTQ S.A. events.

Voting Member

Voting members are current Purdue University students who have attended at least 3 (three) regularly scheduled meetings per academic year. Officers are considered voting members. The Secretary keeps record of all eligible and ineligible members for the voting process.

Executive Board

President

The President of the LGBTQ S.A. is in charge of daily operation of the Queer Resource Office, including bur not limited to: staffing the office and maintaining an office schedule. The President is to chair and produce an agenda for all regularly scheduled LGBTQ S.A. meetings as well as serve as member ex officio of all LGBTQ S.A. related meetings and or boards, and reserves the right to appoint a representative in the event the President does not attend. The President must also represent LGBTQ S.A. on all University-related committees/boards or assign a representative. The President must serve all duties of the President in the eyes of Purdue University. The President is expected to meet twice a month with the LGBTQ S.A. advisor(s). The President will also complete any activities that the LGBTQ S.A. Board deems fit.

Vice President

The Vice President shall serve as the President in the absence of the President. The Vice President will chair the Social, Activism, Public Relations, Technology, and Diversity Committees, in the absence of an appointed committee chairperson. The Vice President shall also oversee each committee chairperson. The Vice President will assist in communication v.rithin and external to the LGBTQ S.A. The Vice President will also complete any activities that the LGBTQ S.A. Board deems fit.

Treasurer

The Treasurer shall keep accounts, deposit the organizations funds, and make expenditures in a manner approved by the Business Office for Student Organizations. The Treasurer may chair the Fundraising Committee, appoint a chair, or request another officer appoint a chair, pending approval from the LGBTQ S.A. Board. The Treasurer shall also oversee any fundraising activities and be in charge of and deposit such funds. The Treasurer shall provide the LGBTQ S.A. with an update of LGBTQ S.A. finances as needed .. The Treasurer will also complete any activities that the LGBTQ S.A. Board deems fit.

Secretary

The Secretary will take the minutes and attendance for each LGBTQ S.A. meeting or see that the minutes and attendance are taken in the case of absence. The Secretary is responsible for making the minutes readily available. The Secretary is responsible for maintaining reasonable confidentiality of LGBTQ S.A. meeting and event attendees. The Secretary shall maintain a registry of voting members, general members, and guests. Any member or guest who is unwilling to divulge their legal name may go by their preferred name, an alias, or a false name to protect their confidentiality. The Secretary shall handle all official communication within and external to the LGBTQ S.A. The Secretary will also complete any activities that the LGBTQ S.A. Board deems fit.

Committee Chairs

Diversity Committee

The Diversity Committee shall be supervised by the Vice President. The LGBTQ Community is a beautifully diverse population; The Diversity Committee is responsible for keeping up to date on events of Cultural Centers, racial and ethnic organizations, and other queer-friendly diversity-related organizations. The Diversity Committee shall coordinate events with other diversity groups and double-check all LGBTQ S.A. events to ensure compliance with the LGBTQ S.A.'s nondiscrimination policy.

Social Committee

The Social Committee shall be supervised by the Vice President. The Social Committee is responsible for planning all social events related to LGBTQ S.A. The Social Committee shall complete any Purdue University procedures for these events.

Activist Committee

The Activist Committee shall be supervised by the Vice President. The Activist Committee is responsible for planning all activism events related to LGBTQ S.A. The Activist Committee shall complete any Purdue University procedures for these events.

Public Relations Committee

The Public Relations Committee shall be supervised by the Vice President. The Public Relations Committee is responsible for designing and publishing all materials to be read by the public. The Public Relations Committee shall design all advertisements for LGBTQ S.A. events. The Public Relations Committee will also prepare position statements for the organization if requested by the LGBTQ S.A. board.

Technology Committee

The Technology Committee shall be supervised by the Vice President. The Technology Committee is responsible for maintaining LGBTQ S.A.'s website, ItaP account, and other web-based accounts. The Technology Committee is also responsible for the LGBTQ S.A.'s public computer in the QRC and ensuring all electronic communication is distributed.

Fundraising Committee

The Fundraising Committee shall be supervised by the Treasurer. The Fundraising Committee is responsible for actively seeking out, planning, and executing all fundraising efforts. The Fundraising Committee shall complete any Purdue University procedures for these events.
