Shadowing Dr. Hack
Dr. Hack is also looking for students that are interested in shadowing him during the week. He is looking for students that would be willing to give a commitment of a few weeks at a time to get a better experience. I have recently shadowed Dr. Hack, and I'll give an overview of what it included:
He had his first endoscope at 8 am and had a second one around 8:45 am. They included a colonoscopy and EGD. After those two procedures were finished, we left the hospital and went to the Sigma clinic where we met with patients. There he diagnosed them while I was allowed to sit in. I know this is a general outline of the day, and there are many more details to the day. Overall it was a great experience of the hospital and clinical side of medicine. He is flexible with his schedule, and depending on the day he will have two rounds of endoscopies, one in the morning and another in the afternoon. I did a morning shadow due to my schedule.
It is almost necessary to have your own form of transportation. I also recommmend taking a small notebook to take notes in throughout your experience. The attire is business casual i.e. for guys khakis/slacks with an oxford or scrub top; for girls similar attire is recommended but khaki capris are acceptable. I am currently working on information that is necessary/recommended to know before your shadowing days, and I will upload it to the website when I have it finished. If you are interested in shadowing him, please fill out this application and email it to the secretary.
Pre-Medicine Book with Dr. Hack
Dr. Hack is looking for students to help him write a "book" about all of the material he covers. The book will be for the students that attend the lectures. This would be similar to an in depth outline and expanded collection of all topics that are mentioned and discussed. This is a great opportunity to personally get to know a doctor and work on a project with one. If you are interested, fill out this application and email hmhack@me.com with any questions.
