What is the Purdue Gymnastics Club?

Good question! The Purdue Gymnastics Club is a group of normal everyday students who, like yourself, want to stay active while at school. We practice four times a week in the fall, and four times a week during the spring semester, all during the evening hours. We own and operate all of the equipment for all 4 womens and 6 mens events.

Who can join the Gymnastics Club?

ANYONE! The club is put together with students of all skill levels. From experts on the rings or uneven bars, to first day beginners. We all practice and learn from one another.

How do I join the Gymnastics Club?

It's easy! Just show up for practice during any of our scheduled practice times. There are no tryouts to join or anything. We do have a small club dues fee, and that money goes towards buying and maintaining our equipment. So just show up, and you're a part of the team!

What kind of activities does the club participate in?

Our club is a competition team. We are a part of the NAIGC, which stands for National Association of Intercollegiate Gymnastics Clubs. We attend an average of 5-6 meet invitationals, including meets at Indiana University, Notre Dame/St. Mary's, Miami of Ohio, and Virginia Tech. Each February we also host our own meet in Lambert called the Purdue Golden Grips Meet. Then at the end of each season there is a Nationals competition in which all the clubs from around the country converge on one campus to compete with one another. We encourage everyone who wants to compete to do so. We by no means require it though. Just like our club itself, the meets are set up so that they are competitive for all skill levels. They are enjoyable for beginners and professionals alike.

The Gymnastics Club will also throw some parties for different occasions throughout the year, such as the fall picnic, a banner signing party, and the end of the year wrap up. Many times on Wednesdays we will go cosmic bowling or have a movie night at someone's place. Also, mainly during the fall semester we do some fundraising to make money so we are able to take our trips to all the meets. We sign students up to be credit card members, wash cars at the annual carwash, and help out with football parking during one of the Boiler's football games.

How can I get more information about the Purdue Gymnastics Club?

There are many ways to learn more about the gymnastics club. The best way would be to stop by a practice and talk to one of our club officers. If you don't have the time to do that, you can either email us at cjorman@purdue.edu or call any of the officers listed on the members list.

WE HOPE TO SEE YOU AT PRACTICE!!
