The most wonderful wedding to ever take place
at St. John's Church!

No wedding goes off perfect and ours was no
exception. However, everything that went "wrong" was easily dealt with
and the wedding was as close to perfect as we could hope for.
We arrived in Galena, Illinois on Thursday night,
June 6th, and realized that we had forgotten the Programs and our checkbook at home in
Indiana. Thank goodness for Copy Works and ATM machines!
The 8 centerpieces that we had worked so diligently
on for weeks before the wedding were all ruined when Vicki dropped
one on top of the box holding all the others and glass shattered all
over the rest of them. Crystal gels were put in glass globes and
water was added to make it translucent. Rose garland was glued
around the base. Confetti and small
plastic doves and gold rings were placed in the globe. They seem
to float inside the globe. A rose colored candle was placed
on top.
Only one centerpiece survived.
Uncle Don got lost driving from the motel to the
church. It wasn't realized until after Michael and Joseph
rolled out the aisle
runner and the ceremony was about to begin. Luckily, he and
the girls and Grandma Grace arrived about 5 minutes later. Brian
pinned his Grandmother's corsage and seated her, and the wedding was
ready to begin!
Brian
and Michael walked down the aisle and waited with the Pastor at
the front of the church. The music began, (Chapel
of Love) and Sarah
started down the aisle. Next came Brian, and then Tori. So far,
so good. The Bridal music began (Visions
of Love), and just as Vicki and Joseph were preparing to start
walking down the aisle, a Cat darted in from outside and ran down the aisle of
the church. Everyone in the church gasped at once which freaked
the cat out who turned to run back outside but found himself facing
Vicki, Joseph and Becky (the wedding hostess) so he froze not knowing
what to do. Becky
rushed in to get the
cat and toss him outside and Vicki and Joseph
proceeded down the aisle.
One of the things that we heard and read over and
over again as we planned our wedding was that no matter what went
wrong ,"In the end you will be married and That is what counts!"
How true that is. We got through the upsets without letting anything
actually upset us, and in the end we were indeed married. That is what
counts.
That's what made the day perfect!
Our Wedding Ceremony
About the music....
One evening, Vicki
was sitting in McDonalds enjoying an ice cream cone with her children
when she heard a song playing that she just fell in love with. Rushing
home, she hopped on the internet and searched for what she thought
must be the title of the song. That's how she discovered
Jim Brickman. The song she heard in McDonald's was
"Your Love", sung
by Michelle Wright with Jim Brickman playing the piano.
More searching and listening led to a realization that our
wedding music had finally been found! Guests listened to Jim
Brickman piano solos during the wedding prelude. While searching
for more on Jim Brickman, we came across a tune played by him and jazz
artist Dave Koz titled "Visions of Love". Vicki knew she didn't
want to walk down the aisle to a typical bridal march and as soon as
she heard "Visions of Love", she just knew it would work
wonderfully. It was all very non-traditional, but we think, very
beautiful. As a side note... the song "Your Love" is special
to us mostly because it is the
song that lead to everything else. But personally, we prefer
"Destiny".
