Projects

We will be working on three projects this semester. Here's a breif description of each and a list of important dates. This is a printable page. Simply select "File > Print" from your browser menu and the page will reformat.

Project One: Visual CoOperation

This project focuses on introducing you to visual composition and key rhetorical concepts. In addition to composing a rhetorical analysis paper, you will work with visual editing software to (1) revise a previous students visual argument and (2) compose your own visual argument. I choose to introduce rhetoric to students through images since we have less preconceptions and apprehensions surrounding what constitutes "quality" writing than we do quality images. That's not to say that the skills we use are exclusive to more visual mediums--by the end of the course I hope you begin to see how these techniques and concepts influence all human communication.

Project Two: Presenting (& Collecting) the University

Project 2 serves as the focal point of our semester. In Project 2, you will read, research, and respond to a broad range of texts dealing with the history of education. Furthermore, you will interact with students from other classes who are reading these texts. Your electronic conversations, research annotations, and reading responses will mature into a 5-7 page argumentative paper.

Project Three: Moving Like Images

Your final project will allow you to combine the skills you learned in Project One and Project Two into a multimedia composition. I am still working out the details on this one, stay tuned...
