Applications Applications abound for wireless handheld solutions related to higher education. Many applications are being developed specific to wireless applications on campuses. Several applications exist, for example, for medical, nursing, law, and veterinary students. Palm, Inc. offers a programming option for institutions that wish to teach software programming for Palm PDAs. There appears no shortage to the number of software applications available for wireless interaction in a classroom setting. As wireless becomes pervasive on campus, it appears the supporting technology will only improve and offerings for wireless solutions in teaching will continue to grow. Whether taking quizzes or testing class understanding of a topic, wireless networking is an innovative technology which can enable new ways of creative teaching in the classroom and beyond.

Value to Higher Education Most research points to the perceived value of classroom learning increasing with the use of wireless technology as students believe they are genuinely engaging in discussions and activities. The value of wireless technology lies not in the "magic" of how it works, but more of what the technology can do to change the shape of educator-student interaction in education. Improved communication and ease of use are qualitative measurements which can display how effective the technology is. Reduction of double-entry of information, improved response time to student's questions, and an increase in quality of service are some of the quantitative measures of effectiveness.
